In Naples, Italy, Carmine Abate designed House Luigi Ganzerli in 2022. The project contrasts layers of warm tones with cool grey and black hues to create a dramatic composition. A long corridor extends through most of the floor plan, directing occupants toward a circular antechamber lined with wooden sliders. A grand living space sits at one end of the residence and contains multiple areas delineated by varied flooring styles, including a striking black stone rug with triangular cutouts.
Unique Layout Enhances Contemporary Space
Carmine Abate designed House Luigi Ganzerli in Naples, Italy, in 2022, creating an interior characterized by a dramatic living area and a circular antechamber.
The most striking feature is the thirty-eight-foot-long corridor serving as the spine of the house, leading to a circular antechamber enclosed by sixteen sliding solid oak panels.
“It allows access to the bedroom, the bathroom, a computer station, and finally, a walk-in closet,” the designers shared.
Living Space Highlighted by Varied Material Palette
The expansive living space at the end of the residence includes a kitchen, dining room, and lounge.
The element shared by these areas is consistent visual and physical permeability between inside and outside, reinforced by natural light entering through full-height glazing and large glass sliders.
The individual areas within the oversize room are delineated by varied flooring styles, with consistent grey grè resin unifying each space.
In the lounge area, an Edra sofa rests on a marble carpet composed of black Marquina and white Carrara triangles, while the perimeter is outlined with resin sourced from Italian company Alfa Marmi.
Other furnishings around include a low round coffee table, colorful armchair, fluted credenza and two-toned lounge chair.
The dining area features rich wood planks, paired with dark leather-backed chairs and a solid wood dining table, both from Cassina.
Next to the dining area is a cobalt blue countertop and dramatic gold leaf furniture by TM Italia showcasing the whimsical nature in the designer’s approach.
From the living room, occupants can directly access the garden, which houses the pool area accessorized with tropical plants from Brazil and an Australian tree.
The wallpaper perched behind the bed in the principal bedroom is by Italian brand Misha and is framed as if it were a painting.
Matching the plump organza ottomans, the walls’ grape patterns “were deliberately chosen by the architect of an unnatural color to emphasize the dreamlike side of the environment,” the team said.
Opposite the bed is another low-profile sofa with green piping on upholstery that matches the textures of the bedspreads used throughout the home.
The bathroom features deep wooden panels framing the mirror and white Carrera marble slab elegantly extending from the countertop to the floor below, visually expanding the area.
Combining consistent design features with innovative configurations, this eclectic interior is completed by stabilized moss present throughout the communal areas and water-based enamel additives, adding a refreshing hint of color.
