Crumb Bakery & Coffee is a project close to my heart, focusing on crafting a space that combines rustic charm with contemporary design in a compact 35-square-meter setting. Inspired by the cozy appeal of a French neighborhood café, this concept was designed to make a small space feel open, inviting, and refined. The vision was to create a serene, welcoming ambiance that would draw people in for a quiet coffee break or a casual gathering.
Mood & Atmosphere
The mood of Crumb Bakery & Coffee is one of warmth, comfort, and understated elegance. Soft, ambient lighting combined with earthy, natural materials creates a calm and inviting atmosphere. The integration of natural wood tones, rich textures, and subtle green accents adds a touch of freshness that contrasts beautifully with the dark wood cabinetry, giving the space a cozy yet sophisticated feel. This balanced ambiance aims to make customers feel at ease, encouraging them to relax, linger, and enjoy their surroundings.
Design StyleThe design style for Crumb Bakery & Coffee combines rustic elements with modern simplicity, drawing inspiration from French café aesthetics while infusing a contemporary edge. Key elements include:
Natural Materials: The use of wood in the shelving, cabinetry, and seating creates a grounded, organic feel. The herringbone brick flooring brings a rustic touch that connects to traditional French interiors, while terrazzo countertops add a modern and slightly playful twist.
Minimalist Elegance: The design embraces simplicity in form, keeping the lines clean and the layout uncluttered. Every element is carefully chosen for both functionality and beauty, ensuring that the limited space remains open and visually appealing.
Warm Color Palette: Earthy tones of brown, beige, and soft terracotta enhance the cozy ambiance, while black accents in the lighting fixtures add contrast and structure, keeping the design fresh and contemporary.
Indoor-Outdoor Connection: Bi-fold glass doors at the entrance not only allow natural light to flood the interior but also create a visual connection with the outside, enhancing the small space’s sense of openness and making the café feel more integrated with its surroundings.
Functionality & FlowWith just 35 sqm, every aspect of the layout was carefully planned to balance functionality with aesthetics. The central counter, topped with terrazzo and surrounded by comfortable stools, serves as a multifunctional focal point for ordering, displaying pastries, and providing seating. Wall-mounted shelving maximizes vertical space for product display without crowding the floor, while the bi-fold doors enhance traffic flow, making it easy for customers to move in and out while maintaining a clear sightline to the café’s offerings.
