Interior designer YOUSUPOVA has completed a house designed in 2022 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Named Ascetic Approach, the project applies an “absolute minimalism” style across three floors, featuring spacious bedrooms, stylish living areas, and understated bathrooms that emphasize natural materials. Designed in a gray and beige palette, the home showcases careful zoning, built-in storage, and high-quality lighting, offering a cohesive flow from floor to floor.
Minimalistic Interiors Define the Spaces
The designers described the chosen style for Ascetic Approach as “absolute minimalism”, with an emphasis on natural materials and well-considered lighting throughout the home’s three floors. A complex combination of gray and beige shades dominates the color palette. Black plumbing in the bathrooms and dark floors offer subtle accents within the overall calm neutral scheme, aimed at enhancing a sense of tranquility.
Of the three floors in the house, two were planned as residential areas while the basement, or minus the first floor, serves as an entertainment space with a cinema, gym, and a dressing room. YOUSUPOVA prioritised practicality in planning these spaces, with each family member having a separate bedroom, bathroom, and dressing room.
Detailed Zoning on Each Floor
On the ground floor, a cosy kitchen-living room showcases the team’s theme of minimalism. The kitchen, with wall-matching facades, includes a cooking area with built-in appliances and ample storage. An island, paired with a worktop and bar stools, creates a dining area next to the living room. In this space, the smoothed edges of the sofa and soft lines of the tables alleviate any tension, creating fluidity and openness. Panoramic windows allow natural light to highlight the warm color scheme.
Flush-mounted doors, built-in appliances, and hidden storage contribute to a space that is as simple and spacious as possible, while the use of high-quality lighting enhances the exclusivity. The ground floor also features a large functional dressing room. YOUSUPOVA opted for high-quality PVC flooring for this and other levels, well-suited to the home’s underfloor heating system.
The second floor contains a spacious children’s room equipped with a massive bed and a large shelving unit for toys and books, as well as an individual bathroom and dressing room. There is also an additional guest room on the same floor.
The top floor is the owner’s private territory, comprising a bedroom and a large bathroom. Here, black plumbing becomes the only color accent, with room for both a spacious bathtub and a shower. A large countertop and numerous shelves reflect the author’s priorities. The design choices throughout the home ensure that one floor smoothly flows into the other, creating an overarching theme of continuity.
The careful planning and emphasis on minimalism in this Kyiv house by YOUSUPOVA demonstrate the importance of cohesion and quality in residential interiors. By integrating natural materials and well-considered elements, the designers successfully created an environment that subtly conveys luxury while prioritising practicality.
