In the hot desert of Dubai, designer Amy Durnford and her family have found an oasis of their own - a villa with a Mediterranean flair. After nearly two years of searching, the talented designer behind Custom No.9 has finally found his dream home. However, the interior design of this villa, which was built in 2004, had become outdated and unsuitable for modern lifestyles, and renovation work was necessary.

Durnford 的设计灵感来源于她与丈夫蜜月期间住过的墨西哥小屋。这些小屋朴实而亲近自然，营造出无缝的室内外生活方式，这是她期望为家人打造的理想居所。她对家的定义有了新的认识——一个明亮通风、自然舒适的生活空间。带着这个愿景，Amy 开始着手将别墅从陈旧的状态改造成一个现代化的家。

Durnfords design was inspired by the Mexican cottage she stayed in with her husband during their honeymoon. The cottages are modest and close to nature, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor lifestyle that she hopes will be the ideal home for her family. She has a new definition of home - a bright, airy, natural and comfortable living space. With this vision in mind, Amy set out to transform the villa from its old state into a modern home.

她决定拆除分隔起居、用餐和厨房区域的墙壁，设计出开放式的布局，仅用错层地面划分功能区域。柔软的亚麻长凳面向花园，营造出轻松的氛围，而金属与玻璃材质的落地枢轴门则将室内与室外完美连接，使空间延展至泳池边缘。

She decided to remove the walls separating the living, dining and kitchen areas, creating an open-plan layout with only split-level floors dividing the functional areas. Soft linen benches face the garden to create a relaxed atmosphere, while floor-to-ceiling metal and glass pivot doors seamlessly connect the interior and exterior, extending the space to the edge of the pool.

As a designer with a passion for furniture design, Amy brings her expertise to every detail of Casa Maya. From the hand-painted microcement walls, to the custom walnut furniture, to the metal handrails winding through the stairwells - everything reflects her deep understanding of material and craftsmanship. The metal handrails were inspired by random sketches she made on the walls, while the doors and Windows were designed in the classic Crittal style. With these meticulous designs, Durnford has injected a contemporary yet earthy aesthetic into the villa.

Amys renovation plan she coordinated 23 contractors, from metalworkers to plasterers, from landscape design teams to lighting and air conditioning engineers. Durnford said: I am very proud to have found such outstanding talent locally, it really speaks to the tremendous progress of the design industry in Dubai.

Casa Maya has become a meeting place for Durnfords family and design experiments, as well asa showcase for her brand Custom No.9. From the microcement walls to the metal details, it not only carries her design vision, but also bears witness to her deep understanding of the way of life. Amys advice is extremely enlightening for anyone looking to renovate a home: Its very important to plan the design before breaking ground. Take the time to determine the solution and then make sure that every design decision supports that solution. Once construction starts, its hard to go back.
