The new monument to the heroes is conceived under the contemporary idea of a commemorative urban-architectural object, capable of transcending the obvious artistic representation to hybridize with the dynamics of the city and its inhabitants, thus creating a living element, which not only pays homage to the heroes and represents a chapter in the history of the country such as the bicentennial of independence, but which continually builds and records the imprint of the next centenary through the collective experience and experience of a constantly changing citizenry in continuous search of emancipation from contemporary colonialist phenomena.
When describing this proposal, we use the analogy to the Baluarte, etymologically it is the strong point of a fortified redoubt to defend a position from the assault of enemy troops, but beyond that we understand it as the act of sheltering, defending and protecting, therefore these two bastions emerge from the ground symbolizing being the guardians of our independence. The bastions make an imposing appearance, their scale, monumentality, rigidity, roughness and materiality begin to form a landscape that tints the view with a reddish colour that represents, from its texture and tone, the rigidity and cruelty of the independence struggles. Blood stains the earth.
