人民路是苏州市姑苏区的重要街道之一，沿线有多个公共文化场馆，其中就包括苏州市公共文化中心。苏州市公共文化中心（以下简称公文中心）是一座综合性的文化设施，建筑场馆包括苏州美术馆、苏州市文化馆、苏州市名人馆、苏州版画院、吴作人艺术馆、颜文樑纪念馆、杭鸣时粉画艺术馆。旨在提供丰富的文化、艺术和教育服务，提升市民的文化生活质量，促进文化交流和传播。

Renmin Road is one of the important streets in Gusu District, Suzhou, featuring multiple public cultural venues along its route, including the Suzhou Public Cultural Centre. The Suzhou Public Cultural Centre (hereinafter referred to as the Cultural Centre) is a comprehensive cultural facility, comprising institutions such as Suzhou Art Museum, Suzhou Cultural Centre, Suzhou Celebrity Museum, Suzhou Woodcut Printing Academy, Suzhou Seal Cutting Art Academy, Suzhou Oil Painting Academy, and Suzhou Powder Painting Art Academy.

为了更好的帮助观众了解各场馆的分布、活动安排和参观路线，2023 年底，苏州市公文中心委托青天制作所为其重新设计观众服务中心。新的观众服务中心应当具备以下作用：

- 提供信息服务：帮助观众了解各场馆的分布、活动安排和参观路线。

- 文化宣传与推广：展示和宣传当前及即将举办的文化活动。

- 便民服务：提供休息区、咨询服务、清凉驿站等便民设施。

- 提升整体形象：展示文化中心的形象和文化品位，提升观众的体验感。

- 促进互动与交流：提供一个互动平台，增强观众的参与感和社区的文化氛围。

- 数据收集与反馈：收集观众的意见和建议，为优化管理提供数据支持。

To better assist visitors in understanding the distribution of each venues, activity schedules, and tour routes, the Cultural Centre commissioned Tsing-Tien Making at the end of 2023 to redesign its visitor centre.

The new visitor service centre should serve the following functions:

Information Services: Assist visitors in understanding the layout, activity schedules, and tour routes.

Cultural Promotion and Outreach: Display and promote current and upcoming cultural activities.

Convenience Services: Provide amenities such as rest areas, consultation services, and refreshment stations.

Enhancing Overall Image: Showcase the Cultural Centre’s image, enhancing the visitor experience.

Promoting Interaction and Communication: Offer an interactive platform to enhance visitor engagement and foster a cultural atmosphere within the community.

Data Collection and Feedback: Gather visitor feedback and suggestions to support management optimisation.

#01 场地原貌

Site Conditions

在青天制作所交接现场勘测后，发现整体存在几个问题：

After an on-site survey conducted by Tsing-Tien Making, several issues were identified with the overall setup:

室外：

- 建筑的外立面杂乱不统一，缺少视觉亮点。

- 遮挡较多，且作为入口的观众服务中心，反而被观众常年忽略。

- 外摆花坛处的座位较为脏乱，利用率极低。

- 整体的调性与苏州市公共文化中心希望承载的角色不搭。

Exterior:

- The exterior façade of the building is disorganised and lacks visual highlights.

- There are numerous obstructions, and the visitor centre, which serves as the entrance, is often overlooked by visitors.

- The seating area by the outdoor flowerbeds is rather dirty and disordered, with very low utilisation.

- The overall tone does not align with the role that the Suzhou Public Culture Centre aims to embody.

室内

室内空间较为零散，家具多为临时添置，基本功能缺失，空间利用率低，色温不适合物品展陈，作为公共空间，无法促进与观众的连结感，空间格调缺失。

Interior

The interior space is rather fragmented, with most furniture being temporarily added. Basic functionalities are lacking, resulting in low space utilization. Fails to foster a sense of connection with the audience as a public space. The space lacks a coherent style.

#02 设计愿景

Design Vision

我们希望通过对观众服务中心整体功能的嵌入和提升，融合一个集信息服务中心、现代艺术展陈、休闲和年轻艺术家扶持为一体的综合空间，用设计提升访客的参观体验，将艺术与创造力置入其中，以更好地回应苏州市公共文化中心对当代苏州城市与社区艺术教育的公众意义。

We aim to integrate and enhance the overall functionality of the visitor service centre, creating a comprehensive space that combines information services, modern art exhibitions, leisure areas, and support for young artists. Through design, we seek to elevate the visitor experience, embedding art and creativity to better align with the public significance of the Suzhou Public Cultural Centre in contemporary urban and community art education.

#03 改造策略

Renovation Strategies

将立面打开，统一立面的语言，更好得被观众看到。同时，更好得被观众使用到。

提炼视觉亮点，同时更符合公共文化中心的调性。

材料上用冷和暖的碰撞，营造出亲切同时又前沿艺术的氛围。

Opening the Façade: Unify the façade’s language for better visibility and usability by visitors.

Refining Visual Highlights: Ensure alignment with the Cultural Centre’s tone while highlighting visual elements.

Material Contrast: Use a mix of warm and cool materials to create an inviting yet contemporary art atmosphere.

#04 大屋顶 L

Roof (L)

我们将整个广场想象成社区客厅的概念：观众服务中心的立面及部分的景观成为城市雕塑，供观众互动体验。拆除原始的墙面后，我们架起了 11 个屋顶，或长或短，或高或低，组成了一整个韵律的大屋顶，访客可在屋顶下栖息和休闲。

We envision the plaza as a community living room, where the façade and parts of the landscape of the visitor service centre become urban sculptures for visitor interaction. By removing the original walls, we erected 11 roofs of varying lengths and heights, creating a rhythmic canopy under which visitors can rest and relax.

#05 小屋顶 M

Roof (M)

延续到室内，我们将吊顶变成了更具趣味的“拼图游戏“。以梯形为一组，每组由 5 种排列组成，形成了空间内的”屋顶“。同时，模块化的形式降低了施工难度，缩短施工周期。

Medium Roof (M): Continuing indoors, we transformed the ceiling into a “puzzle game” with trapezoidal modules arranged in five different patterns, forming the “roof” within the space. This modular approach reduces construction difficulty and shortens the project timeline.

#06 迷你屋顶

Roof (S)

将尺度再缩小到室内的家具。展陈中岛的岛台设计，我们将外立面的大屋顶缩小至了道具的尺寸，把它变成了可灵活拆装和拼接的陈列架。

Mini Roof (S): Scaling down further, we applied the roof concept to the furniture design. The display islands incorporate miniature roof designs, creating flexible and reconfigurable display shelves.

#07 模块化

Modular

在此次的项目中，我们利用原本墙面的特征，基于‘实‘与’空‘的韵律，设计了模块化的展柜设计。设计满足了：当下展陈的便利性；日后使用的延展性。

In this project, we leveraged the original wall features, designing modular display cabinets based on the rhythm of ‘solid’ and ‘void.’ The design meets the requirements of a tight construction schedule, ease of future use, and clarity of current exhibitions.

此次观众服务中心的改造，是对苏州市公共文化中心原有服务中心的升级。对于社区来说，适旅化提升将为居民带来更好的生活品质和社交空间，使居民能够更加方便地了解并参与到各项文化活动中，享受艺术展览、戏剧表演等多样化的文化体验；对于年轻的艺术家来说，服务中心的展示及文创专区，给青年艺术家提供了更好的环境和平台，希望借此能更好地支持及扶持青年艺术家的艺术创作；对于苏州城市，我们希望此次适旅化提升，能使访客更了解苏州的历史文化和艺术魅力，使苏州市公共文化中心成为苏州市的艺术名片和亮点，为原有的艺术体系注入新的活力和动力。

The renovation of the visitor service centre represents an upgrade to the existing service centre of the Suzhou Public Cultural Centre. For the community, this enhancement will improve the quality of life and social spaces for residents, making it easier for them to participate in various cultural activities and enjoy diverse cultural experiences such as art exhibitions and theatrical performances. For young artists, the dedicated display and cultural creative zones in the service centre provide a better environment and platform, supporting their artistic creation. For the city of Suzhou, this upgrade aims to deepen visitors’ understanding of Suzhou’s culture and artistic charm, establishing the Cultural Centre as a cultural landmark and highlight of Suzhou, injecting new vitality into the city’s artistic ecosystem.
