Nikdel Design Studio has completed Saan House in Tehran, characterised by arched doorways, curved furniture and flowing lines connected in the space with no visible angles. Inside the 150-square-metre apartment, wooden elements, warm colours and minimal walls are integrated throughout, creating a distinctively modern look. Through its soft corners and flowing linear forms, interiors mirror natural elements to create a welcoming and comforting space.

Tehran apartment with curved lines

Saan House in Tehran is a unique residential building designed by Nikdel Design Studio in 2022. The architects created a serene environment with soft, flowing lines that create a dynamic yet calm atmosphere. The sea-inspired design is characterized by curved corners and seamlessly connected surfaces that have no sharp edges.

The essence of the house lies in the harmony between curved, linear shapes and various elements such as furniture, accessories and plants. Wooden accents, warm colors and minimal walls give the 150 square meter apartment a modern look and offer the residents a natural ambience. This thoughtful integration transforms the apartment into a place where relaxation begins as soon as you enter.

Persian architecture influences the design concept

The design of Saan House pays homage to Persian architecture, which is characterized by the use of arches. By using these shapes, the studio emphasizes and frames the existing views within the structure rather than creating new ones. The arches not only emphasize beauty, but also provide flexibility in the definition and use of spaces.

According to the designers, this concept promotes a natural flow within the home that makes it easy to navigate and intuitively understand the purpose of each area. It also blurs the boundaries between public and private spaces, creating a hierarchy that contributes to the functionality of the home.

Curved furniture and minimal walls add fluidity

The studio introduced curved furnishings and furniture, from sofas to lounge furniture, to extend the overarching theme of fluid lines. The cabinets feature smooth contours, while decorative elements such as mirrors, lights and flower pots also reflect the fluid nature of the design. Before the renovation, the layout of the apartment was such that the different areas were not clearly defined. By installing additional wall panels, the designers improved this relationship and created different zones for the entrance, the toilets and the private rooms. They also created visually appealing spotlights with false shells that reinforce the purpose of each area. Arched doorways play an important role in enhancing the aesthetics with minimal effort. The designers chose them to blur the boundaries between rooms and ensure the house remains welcoming and cozy, a true oasis of peace and tranquility.

The Saan House is a contemporary interpretation of living spaces that combines architectural heritage with modern design requirements. It is an example of how careful attention to form, material and spatial arrangement can enrich daily life. Reflecting on the renovation, Nikdel Design Studio shared that the project follows the ‘root design’ method, highlighting the importance of aligning the home style with resident preferences from the onset. The incorporation of Persian architectural elements and thoughtful layout revisions remind us that architecture is as much about framing existing beauty as creating new spectacles.
