PA Cerry House is located in the new urban area of Ha Quang, Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa. Situated within a regulated development, the project faced initial challenges as alterations to the exterior design and overall architecture were not permitted.
The homeowners approached Pham Huu Son Architects with the goal of creating a house that stood out with its own unique style, distinct from the other houses in the area, while reflecting their personal character and individuality.
Fortunately, the aesthetic preferences of the homeowners aligned closely with the design team, and minor architectural adjustments were approved by the urban management board. These factors helped resolve initial constraints, allowing the design ideas to be finalized smoothly.
The internal layout prioritizes openness by replacing dividing walls with panoramic glass partitions that connect spaces seamlessly. Externally, the windows were expanded to bring in natural light and airiness. Although the balcony dimensions adhered to urban regulations, the design team added greenery in carefully proportioned arrangements, creating relaxing views from inside the house while ensuring privacy where needed.
The house is completed with a dark gray exterior paired with moody-toned interiors, offering warmth and personality. Despite the modest 80 m² footprint, glass elements were utilized extensively for doors, partitions, and stair railings to maintain a sense of visual continuity. Mirrored glass was strategically incorporated to enhance the perception of space. Instead of standard reflective glass, which could feel overwhelming, the team used tinted mirrors for a balanced, comfortable ambiance.
A skylight brings natural ventilation, an essential feature for urban homes. However, in compact houses, skylights can sometimes appear underutilized or monotonous. At PA Cerry House, the design team eliminated this monotony by combining the skylight with hanging lights that extend from the top floor to the ground level, creating a striking visual effect, especially at night, and adding vibrancy to staircases and corridors.
The rooftop, often overlooked in urban homes, was transformed into a functional, inviting space. The design features abundant greenery, with planters doubling as seating areas. This rooftop acts as a miniature outdoor bar, ideal for relaxing after a long day, hosting weekend gatherings, or simply enjoying the sunrise and the city waking up, providing a refreshing start to the day.
