Urban Courtyard:
Curved Corridor and Mirrored Pavilion
Something for Café, Songshan Lake
Drawing inspiration from traditional architectural elements such as corridors, pillars, and pavilions, the designers skillfully reinterpreted them with a contemporary twist. By accentuating the verticality of the space, they created a sense of structural tension that captivates the eye. The incorporation of a curved blue corridor and a mirrored pavilion seamlessly blends traditional and modern aesthetics, resulting in an urban leisure courtyard that exudes a captivating contemporary charm.
Situated in the heart of Songshan Lake park, Something For Café offers a unique site configuration where one side opens up to a courtyard, while the other side faces an indoor passage. Recreating the ambiance of a leisurely courtyard became the designers’ focal point, providing visitors with an oasis of relaxation and tranquility.
From the courtyard to the interior, the blue curved corridor illuminates the space.
The elevation changes in the ground and the choice of materials demarcate distinct spatial zones, while the corridor pillars adorned in blue further accentuate this spatial relationship. The exquisite blue beams adorning the top of the corridor pillars gracefully intertwine, adding a touch of artistic flair to the curved corridor.

Leveraging the vertical scale of the space, the designers ingeniously integrated the skylight courtyard by incorporating cascading level differences. The harmonious play of natural light, diffused through the embedded membrane lights, creates an inviting and serene environment.

Underneath the courtyard, a captivating mirrored pavilion awaits. Serving as a hub where pathways converge, it also doubles as a bar area where skilled baristas craft beverages. The pavilion’s roof with reflective mirrors modestly integrates into the surrounding space, injecting vibrancy and intrigue into the area.
