In the heart of Amsterdam West, in the Bos en Lommer district, a remarkable transformation has taken place: two separate apartments have been merged into a spacious and contemporary family home. The new layout creates a harmonious balance between living spaces, practicality, and a connection to the surrounding outdoor areas.

Architecture and Spatial Experience

The home is designed as a layered, open concept where the living areas on the ground floor— including the entrance, living room, study, kitchen, and dining room—flow into one another. From these spaces, a garden room, situated at a lower level than the other rooms, leads to the garden. This level difference not only adds an interesting sense of depth to the ground floor but also establishes a strong visual and functional connection with the garden. Due to the large sliding doors and the continuous brick flooring in the garden room and terrace, the transition between indoor and outdoor spaces is seamless. The green roof above the extension and the circular skylight in the garden room provide an abundance of natural light, enhancing the overall living experience.

Multifunctional Volumes

A standout feature of the home are the three multifunctional bamboo volumes. These serve as subtle room dividers between the living and dining areas, adding warmth and a natural texture to the interior. They also house a generous storage closet, a toilet, and a study that can be enclosed with concealed sliding doors. The central volume extends to the first floor and incorporates a sculptural staircase.

Kitchen as the heart of the home

The kitchen, designed with both aesthetics and functionality in mind, features a large cooking island resting on a concrete base, paired with an extended cabinet wall that provides additional workspace. The combination of stainless steel countertops and lacquered veneer panels gives the kitchen a contemporary, robust appearance.

Materials and Craftsmanship

High-quality materials have been used throughout the home, offering a sleek and timeless look. The floors in the original part of the house are finished with a concrete-look poured floor with quartz and epoxy, creating a calm, modern atmosphere. Both the toilet and bathroom feature custom-made natural stone for the walls and floors, adding a sense of luxury and tactility.
