The project's design aimed to create a "healing environment," by enhancing physical and metaphysical aspects of interior spaces of hospital and through evaluating users’ needs including patients, doctors, staff, and stakeholders. Focusing on reducing stress and pressure of patients and their visitors, the design takes advantage of green spaces (placed in terrariums due to infection control and allergy concerns) and allowing natural light to the interior spaces to create a quality environment for whom waiting in the lobby for their beloved ones.
Other key design considerations included:
· Reduction of Visual Clutter: The excessive visual instructions were streamlined through the implementation of digital boards and clear, concise signage.
· Enhanced Spatial Control and Comfort: The arrangement of furniture and the design of accessible pharmacy walls were planned to give occupants a greater sense of control and comfort within the space.
· Effective Crowd Management: The functional layout was redesigned to separate movement paths from waiting areas, thereby reducing congestion.
· Promoting Social Interaction: A new open and covered lobby area with comfortable group seating was created to encourage social interactions.
· Material Considerations: Due to the need for infection control and durability (especially given the use of wheelchairs and stretchers), materials were carefully selected.
Aromatherapy Implementation: Pleasant aromas, such as those of coffee, were introduced to replace the typical clinical smells of alcohol and betadine.
