Adaptive Re-Use Design
The brief calls for the adaptive reuse of a 1952 historic brick structure that was once a warehouse to benefit and enhance the neighbourhood. Incorporating contemporary technologies, sustainable design, and eco-friendly materials, the project prioritises the preservation and repurposing of the structure. The building's goal will complement the local environment and the designer's concept by fusing historical significance with contemporary utility.
Considering this building is located primarily in a residential area and on the outskirts of a business centre, I have decided to reuse this building as a pet shop/dog grooming facility. I have used a local pet business as my ‘client’ for this brief, Absolute Pets. The building consists of three floors: the ground floor is the general pet shop, the floor floor is a pet-friendly coffee shop, and the second floor is the dog grooming facility.
