复魅景观设计:据说这是一座顺风顺水转运厕所,水是南海之魂。本地人认为“水为财”,“顺风顺水”亦是最为普遍、朴素、直接的愿望。24 小时运转的打氧机、频繁喊话的大声公、呼吸跳跃闪烁的灯光……事物在连续动态的旋转中,积蓄能量。转运厕所以幽默的姿态、生猛的俚语,友好的邀请靓仔叻女进入。
Re-enchantment Landscape Design: It’s said that this is a toilet designed to bring good fortune—“Plain Sailing”. Water is the soul of Nanhai. The local belief that “water equals wealth” and the common wish for “Plain Sailing” reflect a simple, sincere aspiration. A 24-hour aerator hums away, a loudspeaker frequently issues announcements, and lights blink and pulsate as if alive. Things accumulate energy in the continuous and dynamic rotation. With a humorous touch and vibrant local slang, the installation warmly invites fashionable young men and women to step inside.

艺术公厕:看见并回应人的需求
An Artistic Public Toilet: Seeing and Responding to Human Needs
“顺风顺水”是复魅景观吉晶为南海大地艺术节设计和改造的公厕艺术装置,作为本次特别板块“在地艺术创作营”中的重要节点,紧挨九江镇龙舟训练基地入水埗头和璜矶社区向北村史馆。在对场地持续的观察和调研过程中,发现公厕的使用活跃度非常高且使用者身份多样。在国内外获奖无数的九江龙男女子龙舟队、钓鱼发烧友、露营爱好者、鸟类摄影爱好者几乎每天都在现场,当然更重要的是村民对场地的使用,公厕和村史馆之间的广场是村民办宴席的固定场所。本次设计与改造,不是为了使厕所变的更光鲜与豪华,也无需美化为不像厕所的其他建筑,而是在不打扰现状的基础上,通过艺术创作,给日常使用者带来惊喜和想象,为大地艺术节游客增加细致入微的感受。
“Plain Sailing” is an art installation and public toilet renovation created by Jijing from Re-Enchantment Landscape for the Nanhai Land Art Festival. Part of the “Local Art Creation Camp”, it sits right beside the entrance to the Jiujiang Town dragon boat training base, next to the Huangji Community Xiangbei village history hall. During the continuous observation and research of the site, it was found that the public toilet is used frequently by a diverse range of people: the internationally acclaimed men’s and women’s Jiujiang dragon boat teams, avid anglers, camping enthusiasts, and bird photographers are here almost daily. More importantly, the plaza between the toilet and the village history museum is a regular venue for village banquets. Rather than making the toilet more luxurious or disguising it as something else, our goal is to introduce artistic interventions without disturbing its current state—bringing moments of surprise and imagination to everyday users, and offering visitors to the Land Art Festival a more subtle, attentive experience.

生命有机体:动脉、静脉和细胞
A Living Organism: Arteries, Veins, and Cells
古老的南番顺是一片汪洋大海,宋以后出现了大量围垦,逐渐形成了今天我们看到的水网-洲岛-陆地的格局。在无数次来往于南番顺的过程中,我们看到的古道、古祠、古榕、拱桥、基塘、埗头、渔歌、鞭炮、鼓乐,这是作为传统岭南水乡为人熟知的部分;另外数不胜数的制造业厂房(水泥、砂石、塑料、木材、家居、纺织…)、农民房、水道边看似没有章法的搭建,那也是西江边典型的当代景观。假如把九江比作一个有机体,快速路高速路和大江大河是它的动脉,田埂河涌就是它的静脉,那些鱼塘果林是它的细胞,它们每天乐此不疲地输送着养分。这些动脉、静脉和细胞构成了南海九江生命的有机体。借由南海大地艺术节,是对这个生命有机体进行一次深深的打量和探究。
The ancient Nanhai, Panyu and Shunde areas were a vast expanse of sea. After the Song Dynasty, extensive land reclamation gradually shaped today’s network of waterways, islands, and landforms. On countless trips through Nanhai, Panyu and Shunde, one encounters old paths, ancestral halls, ancient banyan trees, arching bridges, dike-pond systems, boat landings, fishermen’s songs, firecrackers, and drum music—familiar elements of a traditional Lingnan water village. At the same time, numerous factories (for cement, sand, plastic, wood, furniture, textiles, and more), farmers’ homes, and seemingly haphazard structures along waterways present a distinctly contemporary scene on the banks of the Xijiang River. If Jiujiang is seen as a living organism, then its expressways and mighty rivers serve as arteries, while field ridges and canals form its veins, and fishponds and orchards act as its cells. Each day, these components tirelessly transport nutrients, keeping life thriving. Together, these arteries, veins, and cells compose the organic life force of Nanhai’s Jiujiang. The Nanhai FieldArt Festival provides an opportunity to deeply observe and explore this living entity.

在地性:语言和材料里蕴藏的个性
Locality: The Individuality Hidden in Language and Materials
装置里藏着许多捡来的细节,有预设也有即兴的部分,老铁门、各种管道(排水、排烟、排风)、阀门、彩钢瓦、交通灯(航道、洒水车、垃圾车、大货车、交通警示灯)、鱼塘打氧叶轮、养殖筒、鱼骨天线等等,均为生产生活材料。眼睛看到的,即为实际能用到的。不排斥当代乡村和村民使用的现代化材料,如彩钢瓦、瓷砖等材料,它们“好又坚”、“平靓正”,正是岭南人生活智慧的切片。
所谓“在地性”,不是一种怀旧的情绪,而是实实在在的生活本身。把地方材料和地方白话做连接,顺风顺水、黄金万两(本身具有厕所排泄物的含义)、掂过碌蔗等等俏皮话,幽默、地道、鲜活、生猛,总给人带来感官的交错,总会使人想起排档里九江双蒸淋上啫啫煲的瞬间画面,镬气十足。
This installation incorporates numerous found elements—some planned, some improvised. You’ll find old iron doors, pipes of all kinds (for drainage, exhaust, ventilation), valves, color-coated steel sheets, traffic lights (for waterways, sprinkler trucks, garbage trucks, heavy trucks, and traffic warnings), fishpond aerators, breeding tubes, fishbone antennas, and so forth—materials drawn from everyday production and life.Whatever the eye sees can be put to use. There’s no aversion to modern materials commonly used by local villagers, such as color-coated steel panels or ceramic tiles. They’re “good and sturdy”, “cheap yet fine”, capturing a slice of everyday Lingnan wisdom.“Locality” isn’t about nostalgia—it’s about everyday reality. By connecting local materials with local idioms—phrases like “Plain Sailing”, “a thousand taels of gold” (originally referring to toilet waste), and “as sweet as sugarcane”—we tap into a world that’s fresh, bold, and vivid. These phrases evoke a moment of pouring Jiujiang double-distilled spirits over a sizzling clay pot at a street stall: lively, vivid and full of the flavor of stir-frying.

艺术能为乡村做什么?What Can Art Do for the Countryside?
将土地上的各种要素均视作景观要素,阳光、空气、河流、植物、昆虫、鸟类、不同的人,以及更为重要的,这些要素联结而成的生产生活方式、风俗信仰与禁忌。艺术作为一种方法而非目的,帮助我们思考城市与乡村的关系、土著与他者的关系、日常与旅游的关系、实用与艺术的关系、过去与当代的关系、经典与偶然的关系,从而帮助我们重新发现地方的心灵史。
All elements on the land are regarded as landscape elements, including sunlight, air, rivers, plants, insects, birds, different people, and, more importantly, the production and living styles, customs, beliefs and taboos formed by the connection of these elements. Here, art functions as a method, not an end in itself. It helps us reflect on the relationships between city and countryside, locals and outsiders, everyday life and tourism, utility and artistry, past and present, tradition and happenstance. In doing so, it allows us to rediscover the spiritual history of a place.
