We live in a society shaped by boundaries—Standards that define our identities, mold individual perceptions, and constrain our perspectives. Art, as a boundless language, profoundly breaks through these mental barriers and reconstructs entrenched perceptions. The exhibition hall serves as the vessel that carries and amplifies this transformative potential.
In this project, MOC aims to reflect this theme through the language of space, translating the concept of "breaking boundaries" into spatial and sensory experiences.
01From Boundaries to Openness: A Spatial Metaphor
The site is divided into two levels, which are not directly connected. The negative first floor located below the park is planned as an exhibition hall and co-creation space that can be open to the outside world, while the negative second floor is the daily office of the multimedia team.
The site is divided into two levels that are deliberately unconnected, emphasizing a conceptual separation. The lower ground floor, situated beneath the park, is dedicated to a publicly accessible exhibition and co-creation space, while the second basement level houses the COOBBY team’s daily office operations.
The façade, as the exhibition hall’s primary visual impression, employs expressive geometric forms and a distinctive material palette crafted by MOC to convey the concept of breaking boundaries.
MOC replaced the original façade with transparent glass, maximizing the expansion of spatial boundaries in all directions. This design fosters visual interaction between the exterior and interior spaces, blurring the line between the architecture and its surrounding environment.
The expansive glass façade introduces abundant natural light, while the entrance features multiple operable folding doors, granting the façade exceptional flexibility. This design enables a seamless dialogue between the exhibition hall and its surrounding environment.
Art should not be confined; it should integrate with life. When the folding doors are opened, the entrance area can transform into a temporary exhibition extension or a public event space, creating more opportunities for interaction between the exhibition hall and the public.
This is an expression of openness and invitation. Through the adaptable façade design, the building actively invites the city’s population to engage in discussions and share in the experience of art.
MOC utilized curtain wall claws as the material for the redesigned entrance door handles, echoing the graphic identity of the exhibition hall.
The Nomadic Realm of Perception
The exhibition hall breaks away from a singular linear path, allowing visitors to navigate the space freely and non-linearly. The entire exhibition is composed of four distinct yet interconnected zones, each offering a unique experience while maintaining a fluid connection between them.
The entrance display area is centered around multiple multimedia screens showcasing digital content, forming the core of the space and serving as the starting point for exploration.
The multimedia lobby extends into the central area, which features a multifunctional space with tiered seating. This area serves not only as a venue for screenings and exhibitions but also as a space for forums and discussions.
On one side of the tiered seating area, a fully mirrored corridor becomes the visual climax of the space. The mirrored corridor creates an effect of "amplified and extended boundaries," allowing visitors to experience the illusory and subjective nature of "boundaries" as they move through the space.

Upon passing through the mirrored corridor, visitors enter a fully enclosed dark room. Inside, dark acoustic materials and projection technology are employed to create an immersive environment, where visitors are completely enveloped in a fusion of digital art, sound, and light, offering a profound sensory experience.

Breaking Boundaries of Light: The Natural Light Experiment on the Floor-展厅下方为办公空间,由于办公室位于负二层,室内并无自然采光。
Beneath the exhibition hall lies the office space, located on the second basement level, which has no access to natural light. MOC designed three square openings in the floor to bring natural light into the lower office area, using light as a medium to explore the breaking and continuation of boundaries.
Natural light flows freely between the exhibition hall and the office, organically connecting the two previously separated functional spaces through light, embodying the concept of breaking boundaries.
The varying angles of light at different times of the day create dynamic shifts in light and shadow at the openings, freeing the lower office space from the confines of artificial lighting.
The design of the openings provides visitors with a new perspective for viewing the exhibition. An art installation is placed at these points, and the experience of peering down through the openings intensifies the multiple meanings of "boundaries."
This vertical dimension of visual interaction allows the two spaces to maintain an emotional and intellectual connection despite their functional separation.
In this project, MOC integrates architectural language with conceptual expression, merging spatial design, façade transformation, and the vertical experiment of introducing light. Together with the visitors, MOC becomes a practitioner of "boundary exploration."
