Functional and Modern Two-Bathroom Redesign
Designer: Juan Sebastian Rizo
Interior Design: JSR Studio
2024
The transformation of these two bathrooms represents a clear example of how a well-planned intervention can maximize both the functionality and aesthetics of a reduced space. Through a careful selection of materials and a successful redistribution of architectural elements, a modern, clean and welcoming atmosphere has been achieved.
One of the fundamental aspects of the remodeling was the demolition of the upper and lower frames of the toilet boxes, which allowed for a visual and physical expansion of the space. This intervention eliminated visual barriers that fragmented the area, generating a sense of spaciousness that is particularly valuable in wet spaces.
The use of light materials in walls and surfaces has been fundamental to enhance natural lighting and create a luminous environment. This approach contrasts elegantly with the floor, which features neutral but darker tones, providing visual stability and avoiding a monotonous aesthetic.
Natural wood finishes on the vanity units and shelving provide warmth and an organic texture that softens the coldness of the predominant light tones. These wooden elements also reinforce the idea of a contemporary design that does not lose sight of the importance of integrating natural materials.
The lighting was strategically updated to respond to the different needs of each area. Warm light was chosen in the shower area, contributing to a relaxing space, ideal for personal comfort. In contrast, neutral light was installed in the general areas, such as the powder room, to improve visibility and functionality during daily activities such as personal grooming.
The mirror plays a key role in light distribution, reflecting both artificial and natural light coming through the window, thus increasing the perception of space.
Space optimization is perceived through the installation of built-in furniture and open shelving that allows for efficient storage without visually cluttering the environment. The visual continuity achieved with tempered glass doors in the showers reinforces this sense of openness.
The remodeling of these two bathrooms is an exemplary example of how informed decisions in the selection of materials, lighting and spatial distribution can transform a conventional space into a modern, functional and aesthetically balanced environment. This intervention not only improves the daily experience of the users, but also brings aesthetic and architectural value to the home.
