In one of the underground spaces of a private residence located on a balcony to the Mediterranean, this precise intervention stores and protects an important wine collection.
Thus, and by the express indication of its owner, the work is conceived from the beginning as a unique piece that, in addition to housing some of the most exclusive bottles in the world, should also serve as a meeting and tasting place for no more than half a dozen people. It was to become, therefore, the most important space in this house located on a cliff on the coast of Alicante.
Undoubtedly, a good starting point to intervene in this space, barely 40 m², where a subtle and meticulous work was carried out for more than a year. All this, thanks to the work of local artisans who have so well managed to combine here the texture of rusted steel (or corten), used to build up the displays, furniture, and floor; the natural quality of limestone, cut to a thickness of 3 cm, creating a solid self-supporting framework that serves to store boxes; and the delicacy of cork on the ceiling, as a reminiscence of that material so important for wine and its bottle, which, in addition to providing an honest finishing, allows us to control the acoustics and humidity of the room.
Lighting, in turn, also plays a fundamental role in the project as it not only creates the entire atmosphere of light and shadow on the room's surfaces, but is also responsible for manifesting the robustness and the “tinta” (a Spanish word for the red tone of wine) nuances of the work. It is, therefore, what reveals the name of the wine cellar.
