The Tiltas Bridge

The Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle, aims to reconnect with the growing residential and commercial activities currently taking place. Circulation and accessibility will contribute to the aesthetic regeneration of the area. With rich industrial history, the Ouseburn River has seen 8 bridges built over the decades and seeks an addition to a fast growing area for artists and designers.The Tiltas Bridge proposal will become a destination on a new public route. It will allow boat access and will take consideration of the historical factors of the site, reflected in the chosen materials. Portability and light construction methods were considered to facilitate transportation and ease of movement.

The Tiltas, inspired by the industrial era in the Ouseburn, is named after the tilting movement designed to allow access through the river. Its simple and kinetic design reflects the tidal nature of the tributary and the water wheels located throughout the river bank. Structurally efficient and easy to assemble, the bridge will be able to facility movement for both pedestrians and river transport, successfully contributing to the Ouseburn Regeneration Plan.
