Nowadays, the shipbuilding sector in Alexandria is dealing with significant obstacles that pose a threat to its survival. Due to the use of outdated methods, it is necessary for it to be modernized and updated with the most recent technology to be able to compete.And here it comes, “THE COCOON. “Introducing a new way of thinking in this field, from civilized industrial function to dynamic artistic and avant-garde realm. The project involves the whole process from education, design, and engaging the community in recreational spaces while seeing the manufacturing process so it can revive the rich maritime heritage of Alexandria.The project focuses on narrative architecture, through an immersive user experience inside the mega space -the cocoon- with its interactive skin which mimics the cocoon behaviour of growth as it varies with the construction process from the very beginning until the final product.

MISSION STATEMENT: A naval architecture academy and convention center that aims to re-brand Alexandria as a strong maritime hub and to transform the inherited shipbuilding craft into a huge industry with creativity and innovation to build a new economic base.

CONCEPT STATEMENT: A Glocal hub that re-identifies naval industry as a multi-dimensional realm that infers art and science to achieve a future leap in the industry.
