|Integrated Planning for Open Spaces|
This project features an open-plan residential layout that aims to accommodate multiple functions—including the kitchen and dining area, living room, piano, desk, and jazz drum zone—while maintaining storage capacity and spatial flexibility. The key design challenge lies in allowing diverse functions to coexist within a single space without appearing cluttered or conflicting.
Integrated Storage at the EntrywayThe wall to the right upon entry conceals ample storage. Through a combination of panel divisions, display shelving, and façade detailing, cabinetry is transformed into a seamless part of the wall, blending into the overall space. The proportions were carefully adjusted to maintain a sense of rhythm and lightness across the surface.
TV Wall and Storage Cabinet IntegrationThe main TV wall adopts a curved design language, forming a continuous interface with the adjacent storage wall. A special matte-finish paint in low-saturation tones was selected for the surface, establishing a stable and understated backdrop. Indirect lighting extends horizontally along the TV wall, enhancing the spatial depth.
Focal Point at the End of the CorridorTo avoid a long, tunnel-like hallway, a visual focal point was created at the end of the corridor. A circular lighting element paired with a stainless-steel background creates a highlight through reflected light and material contrast, turning the corridor into a feature rather than merely a passageway.
Multi-Functional Public ZoneThe kitchen island serves as the central core of the space, integrating food preparation, dining, and social functions. Finished in deep gray cabinetry and quartz stone in mineral gray, and anchored by light wood flooring, the space establishes a calm and neutral foundation. Furniture layout and lighting arrangements naturally define the boundaries between the living and dining areas, maintaining order within the openness.
Integrated Piano and Bookshelf WallThe ceiling behind the sofa was raised to incorporate upper storage. The wall integrates both the piano and bookshelf, using a combination of closed cabinets and open shelves to balance storage and display. The piano is seamlessly embedded within the design language to avoid appearing out of place.
Study and Drum Practice AreaThe study wall features Grey Web marble with refined veining and subdued color tones, offering a quiet and elegant workspace. A designated drum practice zone is set aside adjacent to the desk, allowing work and hobbies to coexist within the same space, maintaining flexibility for various uses.
Unified Material PaletteThe overall color scheme is controlled within a low-saturation range. Light wood flooring, deep gray kitchen cabinetry, specialty paint finishes, and natural stone are coordinated to create a rhythmic and cohesive material palette. Through lighting and façade segmentation, the design emphasizes continuity and harmony. Starting from functional needs, the space achieves coexistence of varied uses through thoughtful material integration and detailing. Openness does not equate to disorder—it is about finding a place for everything within soft boundaries.
