Materials

High quality materials such as steel, granite, polished concrete, timber and copper give the ski lodge a polished, natural feeling. It

nestles comfortably into the slope

with a stone plinth grounding the building, while a parabolic roof floats above a sculpted timber form.

Hydronic Heating

The floors are polished concrete with in-slab hydronic heating. While concrete doesn't seem like a good choice for such a cold climate, when it's combined with in slab heating, it provides a thermally efficient heat source. This type of radiant heat is the most physiologically comfortable type of heating -- far superior to ducted heating, for example which dries the skin and creates large temperature differences throughout the house.

Flexible Planning

The house has two bedrooms and a loft upstairs. Downstairs is a self-contained one-bedroom apartment. This creates maximum flexibility for combinations of skiers.

A Touch of Luxury

Both apartments have a cast concrete Japanese style hot tub. For soaking ski-weary limbs. A sculptural custom shower system has been specifically designed for the apartment.
