Create a bedroom accent wall using wall molding

Before we begin, however, I would like to address a few questions about the accent walls in general

What is an accent wall?

An accent wall, also known as a feature wall, is one wall in the room that is differentiated from the rest of the room with a bold color, wall art, or wood molding. The adjacent walls in the room are usually painted a neutral color.

Which wall should be an accent wall in the bedroom?

In the bedroom, a wall at the head of the bed is the accent wall.

Are accent walls still in style in 2023?

Yes, accent walls are still in style in 2023, but in a slightly different way. If before, the main way to differentiate a wall, was to paint an entire wall a different, bold paint color, now adding a picture molding or other wall trim design is the way to go.

Are accent walls darker or lighter?

If the walls are accented with paint color, then then the accent wall paint colors should be at least a few shades darker than the rest of the room.

How many accent walls are too many?

There should only be one accent wall in a room. However, not every room should have an accent wall.

How to accent the bedroom wall

For this project, we started with white walls in the teen bedroom, pretty much a blank slate. We wanted a create a stunning accent wall with wall molding while keeping the same paint color throughout the room.

Paint the room

We started the transformation by painting the entire room a beautiful blush pink color by Sherwin Williams A Touch of Sand (SW 9085)

Accent wall Installation

We decided to

buy a precut trim

and it was shipped to us ready to install, thus we didn’t need a saw to cut the trim.

Tools we used

Cordless nailgun

Level

Wood filler

Paintbrush

We installed the wall molding using the nail gun and the level. Once the molding was installed, we used a wood filler to patch up the nail holes and then painted the trim, the same color as the walls, with 2 coats of paint.

Conclusion

This project is a good beginner lever DIY, as long as you measure and order the correct size and install it straight using the level, you are good. In our humble option, this is a perfect accent wall for this bedroom.
