The spatial organization of the school complex optimally supports each educational level, offering multifunctional and accessible spaces that encourage interaction and flexible use of communal areas. By repurposing existing buildings and enhancing their functionality, the project embraces sustainability while preserving the site’s original layout as much as possible, with the only exception being the newly added kindergarten building in the western part of the complex. This new structure creates an enclosed outdoor space called the “Place de la Rencontre,” a hub connecting the various buildings. The square includes a protected green area with a fountain, trampolines, and flower gardens, fostering play, socialization, and a sense of community. The kindergarten is constructed with timber, and unfired earth bricks are used for interior partitions, providing mass and thermal benefits. Designed for disassembly at the end of its lifespan, the building reflects the project’s commitment to sustainability. The primary school will be extended to include all necessary classrooms, with provisions for future vertical expansion of up to six additional classrooms. A covered, flexible meeting area will also be created to serve as a communal space for gatherings and to strengthen the connection between the primary school and the historic building. The project emphasizes natural materials, low-tech ventilation solutions, and renewable energy, ensuring a sustainable environment that integrates seamlessly into its surroundings. By incorporating existing outdoor spaces and introducing natural play environments, the design supports both educational development and community engagement.
