Project Briefing

奥北森林公园二期位于北京市昌平区、北京中轴线的北延长线上，总面积约140.2公顷。公园以全龄友好、森林运动为特色，是京北最大的森林运动场，成为回天地区的碳汇森林和市民喜爱的绿色客厅。自2024年10月公园正式投入使用以来游客量达近30万人次，日均游客量5000人次、节假日日均游客量6500人次，运动场地累计用户达1.1万人次。

The second phase of Aobei Forest Park is located in Changping District, Beijing, along the northern extension of Beijing’s central axis, covering a total area of approximately 140.2 hectares. The park is characterized by its all-age-friendly design and forest sports features, making it the largest forest sports venue in northern Beijing. It serves as a carbon-sink forest for the Huitian area and a beloved green retreat for residents. Since its official opening in October 2024, the park has welcomed nearly 300,000 visitors, with a daily average of 5,000 visitors on weekdays and 6,500 on holidays. The sports facilities have recorded a cumulative total of 11,000 users.

奥北森林公园群

Aobei Forest Park Cluster

规划的奥北森林公园群位于奥林匹克森林公园以北，北清路以南，回龙观和天通苑超大型社区之间，总面积约14.17平方公里，绿色空间面积约11.44平方公里。虽有多年造林绿化的基础，奥北区域仍然存在林不连续、水不连通、园不融合、路不连贯、设施不完善、特色不突出等问题，无法满足连通北部绿楔的生态需求，无法满足回天居民的日常使用需求，也不符合北中轴北延长线的宏伟定位。近几年，奥北区域先后建设了奥北森林公园一期、二期、三期，正在提升的绿地还有东小口森林公园一期、二期，半塔森林公园等三个郊野公园。 奥北森林公园二期分为南园和北园两部分，东西向连接回龙观和天通苑，南北向织补北部绿楔，是奥北森林公园中最重要的生态枢纽和活力空间。

The planned Aobei Forest Park Cluster is located north of the Olympic Forest Park and south of Beiqing Road, situated between the massive residential communities of Huilongguan and Tiantongyuan. It covers a total area of approximately 14.17 square kilometers, with 11.44 square kilometers dedicated to green spaces.

Despite years of afforestation and greening efforts, the Aobei region still faces issues such as disconnected forests, fragmented water systems, unintegrated parks, incomplete pathways, inadequate facilities, and a lack of distinctive features. These shortcomings hinder its ability to meet the ecological demands of linking the northern green wedge, the daily needs of Huitian residents, and the grand vision of the northern extension of Beijing’s Central Axis.

In recent years, the North Olympic region has seen the construction of Aobei Forest Park (Phase I, II, and III), along with ongoing upgrades to Dongxiaokou Forest Park (Phase I and II) and Banta Forest Park—three additional suburban parks. The second phase of Aobei Forest Park is divided into Southern and Northern sections, serving as a crucial east-west link between Huilongguan and Tiantongyuan while also reinforcing the north-south ecological connectivity of the northern green wedge. It stands as the most vital ecological hub and vibrant public space within Aobei Forest Park Cluster.

碳汇森林

Carbon Sink Forest

公园内现状及新植林木共计50000余株，建设初期总碳储量为1542.7吨（转化为经济收益147万元），年固碳422.8吨（转化为经济收益40.3万元/年），是回天地区的“碳汇森林”，体现了“绿水青山就是金山银山”的理念。公园营建了密林、疏林、草甸、湿地等多种生境，种植了130余种植物，设置了保育小区30万平米与多处动物旅馆。公园结合现状低洼地及坑塘，建设了总面积约10万平米的雨水花园，可满足16万立方米的雨水调蓄。改造前，小雨时公园有排水不畅的问题；改造后，2023年7月特大暴雨灾害时公园排水非常顺畅。公园保留了大量低维护且节水的原生地被（占公园面积的60%以上），主要应用了乡土树种，服务建筑屋顶与公园入口构筑物顶设计为雨水收集设施。

The park contains over 50,000 existing and newly planted trees, with an initial total carbon storage of 1,542.7 tons (equivalent to economic benefits of 1.47 million yuan) and an annual carbon sequestration capacity of 422.8 tons (generating economic value of 403,000 yuan per year). It serves as a “carbon sink forest” for the Huitian area, embodying the concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.”The park features diverse habitats including dense woods, open woodlands, meadows, and wetlands, planted with more than 130 species of vegetation. It has established 300,000 square meters of conservation areas and multiple wildlife shelters. Utilizing existing depressions and ponds, the park has constructed approximately 100,000 square meters of rain gardens capable of storing 160,000 cubic meters of stormwater. Before renovation, the park experienced drainage issues during light rains; after improvement, it demonstrated excellent drainage performance during the extreme rainstorm in July 2023. The park preserves extensive low-maintenance, water-saving native ground cover (covering over 60% of the area), primarily using indigenous tree species. The roofs of service buildings and entrance structures are designed as rainwater harvesting facilities.

变废为宝

Turn waste into treasure

公园核心区域建设前是一个废弃的高尔夫球场，建设后转变为全龄友好的森林公园；公园北部区域的建筑垃圾山被改造为北京中轴线北延长线上的绿色山丘；公园建设过程中利用了大量的废弃园路砖作为墙体与座椅的填充材料，废弃的混凝土管被改造为过水涵洞，废弃的桥体被改造为动物旅馆；公园建设大量应用了建筑垃圾再生砖、再生道牙、再生骨料，大量应用了可再生的钢材且少用不可再生的木材，共应用再生骨料道牙68000米、再生骨料基础460方、再生透水砖23000平米、应用建筑废弃物作为公园非承重石笼挡墙填料及雨水花园底层填料1850方。

The park’s core area was transformed from an abandoned golf course into an all-age-friendly forest park, while the northern section’s construction waste mound was rehabilitated into a green hill along the northern extension of Beijing’s Central Axis, with the construction process creatively repurposing discarded materials—using old pathway bricks as filler for walls and seating, converting decommissioned concrete pipes into water culverts, and reinventing demolished bridge structures as wildlife shelters, while extensively utilizing recycled construction materials including reclaimed bricks, recycled aggregate curbs (68,000 linear meters), recycled foundation aggregate (460 cubic meters), permeable recycled bricks (23,000 square meters), and 1,850 cubic meters of construction waste repurposed as filler for non-load-bearing gabion walls and rain garden subgrade, with a strong preference for renewable steel over non-renewable timber throughout the project.

京北最大森林运动场

Largest Forest Sports in Northern Beijing

建设后公园成为京北最大的森林运动场。公园设置了12个足球场、11个篮球场、13个羽毛球场、20个网球场、2个轮滑场、2处乒乓球场、1个中考体能练习场、7公里全民健身环线、4.5公里骑行道、500米轮滑练习道、800米马拉松练习道、20公里散步道，缓解了天通苑与回龙观大型社区周边户外运动场不足的问题，增强了城市服务水平和居民幸福感。自2024年10月公园正式运营以来运动场地累计用户达1.1万人次，成功举办了多项网球赛事，包括中国政法大学首届校庆杯网球公开赛、第三十一届华北地区老年网球邀请赛以及2024年上东杯北京业余网球挑战赛，挑战赛的关注度极高，点击量达到了155286次。

Upon completion, the park has been transformed into the largest forest sports in northern Beijing, featuring an impressive array of facilities including 12 football pitches, 11 basketball courts, 13 badminton courts, 20 tennis courts, 2 roller skating rinks, 2 table tennis areas, 1 physical training ground for secondary school entrance exams, a 7km public fitness circuit, 4.5km cycling paths, a 500m roller skating practice track, an 800m marathon training route, and 20km walking trails. This development has effectively addressed the shortage of outdoor sports venues in the Tiantongyuan and Huilongguan mega-communities, significantly enhancing urban amenities and residents’ wellbeing. Since its official launch in October 2024, the sports facilities have recorded 11,000 user visits and successfully hosted several tennis tournaments, notably the inaugural CUPL Anniversary Cup Tennis Open, the 31st North China Senior Tennis Invitational, and the highly-publicized 2024 Shangdong Cup Beijing Amateur Tennis Challenge which generated 155,286 online engagements.

京北网红打卡地

Beijing’s Northern Hotspot

在靠近居住区的区域，将各类休闲场地与设施设置在公园的边界与城市交接的区域，形成“活力边界”，打造“居民楼下的花园”。这样的布局有利于市民更方便地使用城市与公园，并将城市的活力充分展示，形成自然与城市的相互渗透。公园内还设置了若干园中园、形成“大林小园”与“精野结合”的特色布局，设计奥北之门、自然之门、金色花海、蓝色原野、童梦森林、柳荫湿地、康养森林、演替森林、回天客厅、轮滑乐园、自然课堂等主题化特色景点，很多景点成为京北网红打卡地。北林风景建筑研究中心参与其中的景观建筑专项，完成了园区内共计5项景观建筑及构筑物设计。这些建筑物分属于不同的景观分区，承担公共景区的服务、休憩、瞭望等各种功能，充分融入公园环境之中。我们期望以当代的建筑材料和空间建构，营造一系列向景而立的景观建筑。下面将介绍其中三处建筑物及构筑物。

The park strategically locates various recreational facilities along the urban-park interface near residential areas, creating a vibrant “active edge” that serves as “community doorstep gardens.” This design facilitates easier public access to both urban and park spaces, showcases the city’s vitality, and achieves a harmonious integration of nature and urban fabric through carefully planned transitional zones.

The park features a distinctive “forest-garden matrix” design with multiple themed gardens-within-gardens that blend curated landscapes with wilderness areas, creating a harmonious “refined-wild” aesthetic through signature attractions including the Aobei Gateway, Nature Gateway, Golden Meadow, Blue Wilderness, Childhood Dream Forest, Willow-shaded Wetland，Healthy Forest, Ecological Succession Forest, Huitian Living Room, Skateboarding Park, and Nature Classroom – many of which have become viral social media hotspots and must-visit destinations in northern Beijing.

The Landscape Architecture Special Project, in which Atelier Folie participated, has completed the design of a total of 5 landscape buildings and structures within the park. These buildings, located in different landscape zones, serve various functions such as public service, rest, and lookout in the scenic area, and are fully integrated into the park environment. We aim to create a series of landscape buildings facing the scenery with contemporary building materials and spatial construction. The following will introduce three of these buildings and structures.

一、滑板场服务站

Skate park Service Station

项目位于奥北森林公园二期北园的游戏活动场旁，其功能包括室内商品售卖、公共卫生间和屋顶瞭望平台，连接了小型的绿地与后侧的游戏活动场。种植的乔木从一层穿过二层平台空隙向天空继续生长，略过树木可以远眺公园的主要交通游线附近的景观，透过树叶回望可以看到配色活泼的塑胶活动场，儿童可以在此进行丰富的游戏和体育运动。小型的室内售卖点主要用于餐饮类商品的零售，结合休憩区，形成了悠闲的路旁咖啡座的空间效果。红砖的墙体和米白的水刷石分割了建筑立面，使服务站成为公园绿地环境中一处可游可停可望的驿站，也是可以和风景对望互赏的地景。

The project is located beside the game and activity area in the north Garden of the second phase of Aobei Forest Park. Its functions include indoor commodity sales, public restrooms and rooftop observation platforms, connecting the small green space with the game and activity area at the back. The planted trees continue to grow from the first floor through the gap of the second floor platform towards the sky. Passing by the trees, one can overlook the landscape near the main traffic routes in the park. Looking back through the leaves, one can see the colorful plastic activity area where children can engage in a variety of games and sports. The small indoor sales points are mainly used for the retail of food and beverage products. Combined with the rest area, they form the spatial effect of a leisurely roadside coffee shop. The red brick walls and the off-white water-washed stones divide the building’s facade, making the service station a stopover that can be visited, stopped and admired in the park’s green space environment, as well as a landscape where one can gaze at the scenery and enjoy it together.

在滑板场的设计中，我们充分考虑不同滑板爱好者的需求，打造了功能多样的运动场地。平地滑板区专为初学者设计，提供安全且适宜的基础练习环境，帮助新手们稳步开启滑板之旅；而多地形滑板场则以丰富的地形变化，满足进阶滑手对极限运动的追求，成为挑战自我、突破技巧瓶颈的理想场所。

In the design of the skate park, we fully considered the needs of different skate enthusiasts and created a multi-functional sports venue. The flat skateboarding area is specially designed for beginners, providing a safe and suitable basic practice environment to help novices steadily embark on their skateboarding journey. The multi-terrain skate park, with its rich terrain changes, caters to advanced skaters’ pursuit of extreme sports and becomes an ideal place to challenge oneself and break through technical bottlenecks.

在场地设计过程中，我们参考了国外专业滑板场的审查标准，并积极征求运动健将等专业人群的意见，确保设计细节的专业性和实用性。场地整体布局与设施配置均符合国际惯例，为滑板爱好者提供接轨国际的运动体验。同时，滑板场的施工由经验丰富的专业滑板场水泥施工工人完成，从设计到施工，全方位保障场地的专业品质，致力于为滑板爱好者打造一个兼具安全性、功能性与专业性的活力空间。

During the site design process, we referred to the review standards of professional skate parks abroad and actively solicited opinions from professionals such as athletes to ensure the professionalism and practicality of the design details. The overall layout of the venue and the configuration of facilities all comply with international practices, providing skateboarding enthusiasts with a sports experience that is in line with international standards. Meanwhile, the construction of the skate park is carried out by experienced professional cement workers for skate parks. From design to construction, it ensures the professional quality of the site in all aspects, and is committed to creating a dynamic space that combines safety, functionality and professionalism for skate enthusiasts.

在该项目中，建筑空间与功能布局紧密契合，南侧设置服务设施、咖啡店、急救以及管理用房，打造便捷的服务核心；北侧精心规划无障碍卫生间，包含相对独立的第三卫生间以及男、女卫生间，充分满足不同人群的需求。南侧小型广场通过巧妙布置挡墙与座椅，形成一个多功能的户外空间，可供放置户外装备及帐篷，为使用者提供便利。在运营时间安排上，晚间非运营时段，服务设施虽关闭，但卫生间仍保持正常使用，确保空间的持续可用性与安全性。整体设计中，建筑、景观以及两个运动场相互连接，融为一体，构建起一个有机的运动与休闲场所。植被选用上，采用多色叶植物搭配常绿植物，保证了场地四季皆有景致，色彩丰富且富有生机，为使用者带来愉悦的视觉享受与舒适的使用体验。

In this project, the architectural space is closely integrated with the functional layout. Service facilities, coffee shops, emergency medical facilities and management rooms are set up on the south side to create a convenient service core. The north side is carefully planned with barrier-free restrooms, including relatively independent third restrooms as well as men’s and women’s restrooms, fully meeting the needs of different groups of people. The small square on the south side, by ingeniously arranging retaining walls and seats, forms a multi-functional outdoor space, which can be used to place outdoor equipment and tents, providing convenience for users. In terms of the operation schedule, during the non-operation hours in the evening, although the service facilities are closed, the restrooms remain in normal use to ensure the continuous availability and safety of the space.In the overall design, the building, the landscape and the two sports fields are interconnected and integrated, forming an organic sports and leisure place. In terms of vegetation selection, multi-colored leaf plants are combined with evergreen plants, ensuring that the site has beautiful scenery throughout the four seasons. The colors are rich and full of vitality, bringing users a pleasant visual enjoyment and a comfortable usage experience.

二、公园北区南入口大门

The south entrance gate of the north District of the park

本场地承担着北区公园的南门入口处的服务功能，兼有景区入口大道的视觉轴线需求。根据功能和原始场地条件，园林设计团队将这里规划为一处平坦的集散广场，需要入口建筑成为具有大跨度屋顶的标志性构筑。我们以伞状支撑形成“Y”形立面，连通入口环境的轴线视廊，并以几何单元解构屋面，融合入口景观设计，形成横向长L型布局，腾留出宽敞的入口通行空间。大门的服务性需求多在于游客的问讯、休憩和厕所功能，及公园管理人员的办公室、门卫安保处和监控室，所以我们设计了两种小尺度室内单体建筑穿插在伞状屋面之下，形成了灵活多变、功能富足的复合空间。主入口通行空间连接南门入口广场和园内景观轴线大道，分割了西侧的游客中心和东侧的办公管理空间。游客服务处在一层，设有问询台和休息区，紧邻独立的公厕单体，二层则是瞭望平台，可以顺景观轴线一览园内风光。大门屋顶依托伞状的自然斜度屋面形成汇水区，并在支撑柱侧连接雨水管，释放到地面的雨水花园，兼具美观和实用功能，创造出较好的景观效果。

This site serves as the service function for the south entrance of the North District Park and also meets the visual axis requirements of the entrance avenue of the scenic area. Based on the functions and the original site conditions, the landscape design team planned this place as a flat distribution square, and the entrance building was required to become a landmark structure with a large-span roof. We formed a “Y” -shaped facade with umbrella-shaped support, connecting the axis view corridor of the entrance environment. We also deconstructed the roof with geometric units and integrated the entrance landscape design to create a long horizontal L-shaped layout, leaving a spacious entrance passage space. The service demands of the main gate mainly lie in the functions of visitors’ inquiries, rest and toilets, as well as the offices of park management staff, security guards and monitoring rooms. Therefore, we designed two small-scale indoor single buildings interwoven under the umbrella-shaped roof, forming a flexible and functionally rich composite space. The main entrance passage space connects the south gate entrance square and the landscape axis avenue within the park, dividing the visitor center on the west side and the office management space on the east side. The visitor service office is on the first floor, featuring an information desk and a rest area, and is adjacent to an independent public toilet. On the second floor, there is an observation platform from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of the park along the landscape axis. The roof of the main gate is supported by an umbrella-shaped natural slope roof to form a water collection area, and rainwater pipes are connected to the side of the support columns, which are released into the rain garden on the ground. It not only has aesthetic and practical functions but also creates a good landscape effect.

三、公共服务系列驿站

Public Service Series Stations

项目位于奥北森林公园二期北园的主通行道路旁，是一个包含公共卫生间和室内零售的小型服务驿站，对侧是提供座椅可以庇荫休憩的树镇广场，连接了栈道体系，成为自然景观区至体育活动区的过渡节点。通过入口踏步的引导，可以进入到服务空间，零售空间由玻璃幕墙和红砖立面分隔，而公厕隐藏在主视角的侧面。水刷石的材料使得出挑的反梁具有秩序感，红砖的立面连接草地与道路，丰富了视觉效果，服务驿站成为连接公园与游客的空间。

The project is located beside the main passage road in the north Garden of the second phase of Aobei Forest Park. It is a small service station that includes public restrooms and indoor retail. On the opposite side is the Tree Town Square, which provides seats for shade and rest. It connects the plank road system and serves as a transitional node from the natural landscape area to the sports activity area. Guided by the entrance steps, one can enter the service space. The retail space is separated by a glass curtain wall and a red brick facade, while the public toilet is hidden on the side of the main view. The water-washed stone material gives the protruding reverse beams a sense of order. The red brick facade connects the grassland and the road, enriching the visual effect. The service station becomes a space connecting the park and the tourists.

北中轴延长线上的新坐标点——回天台

A New Landmark on Northern Extension of Beijing’s Central Axis——Huitian Platform

对现有的几座垃圾山进行了科学合理的生态修复后，在奥北二期的制高点、北京北中轴延长线上建设了一个标志性观景台——回天台。站在回天台上，向南可以看到奥林匹克塔，向西可以远眺西山，向北可以遥望蟒山，回天台成为了北中轴延长线上的新坐标点。回天台上还摆放了“北京中轴线趣味科普连环画”，直观地展示了北京中轴线的前世今生。▼北京中轴线趣味科普连环画，Cartoon History of Beijing Central Axis©北京北林地景园林规划设计院有限责任公司

After conducting scientific ecological restoration of several existing waste mounds, a landmark observation deck—Huitian Platform—was constructed at the highest point of The second phase of Aobei Forest Park along the northern extension of Beijing’s Central Axis. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy panoramic views: southward to the Olympic Tower, westward to the Western Hills, and northward to Mangshan Mountain. The platform has become a new coordinate on northern extension of Beijing’s Central Axis. Additionally, the ” Cartoon History of Beijing Central Axis ” is displayed on the platform, offering an engaging and visual narrative of the axis’s historical evolution and modern significance.
