Kocaeli University | Department of Architecture | Spring 2023 Term

Located in the western part of Kocaeli, the project area lies adjacent to the historic SEKA Paper Factory—an industrial complex that played a key role in the urban and cultural development of İzmit. The site selection is strategic, offering access to water and raw materials, proximity to maritime and rail transport, and a connection to Istanbul via highway networks.

The design process focused on reinterpreting this historically and socially significant area through an architectural lens that respects the region’s industrial heritage. The Restoration Research Center aims to serve as a hub for studies on preservation and adaptive reuse, while fostering public engagement and education in heritage conservation.
