MIXED-USE RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX
Year Status Location
2019 Diploma project Tomsk, Russia
This project represents a bachelor’s thesis in architecture, focused on the revitalization of a former industrial area located in the historic center of Tomsk. The site, once occupied by abandoned factory buildings, is reimagined as a contemporary residential and public space, carefully integrated into the existing urban fabric.
The core concept of the project lies in the transformation of a post-industrial landscape into a vibrant, socially-oriented mixed-use environment. The architectural composition is organized around a central element — an artificial lake — which serves as both a visual focal point and a gathering space for residents. A variety of public zones are arranged around the lake, including areas for relaxation, social interaction, sports, and leisure, forming an active and engaging urban core.
Residential buildings are positioned along the perimeter of the site, enclosing a private inner courtyard. This spatial strategy provides a sense of seclusion and protects the interior from street noise, creating a calm, oasis-like atmosphere within the bustling city. The perimeter development functions both as a sound barrier and as a structural framework for the site.
The architectural character of the complex is defined by varied building heights, which generate a dynamic and visually rich skyline. This variation enhances the individuality of each volume and ensures a sensitive response to the surrounding urban context. The project embodies a sustainable approach to urban regeneration through the thoughtful adaptation of underused land, emphasizing the social role of architecture and the importance of contextual design.
