When I began working on this project in Barvikha Hills—a secluded, intimate, and architecturally refined gated community in the Moscow region—it was immediately clear that the interior had to do more than simply align with the architecture of the mansion; it needed to become its natural extension. I designed the 84.8 m² space, which includes the ground floor and a bathroom on the second floor, as a cohesive spatial installation in a brutalist, minimalist style—imbued with a cold, almost icy aesthetic that originates from my Estonian inner world.
Working with this space, my aim was not to create mere decoration or style for style’s sake, but to craft an architectural atmosphere—strict and geometric, yet charged with emotional tension. The first element I emphasized was the ceiling. Here, the ceiling is not just the “top” of the room; it is an active participant in the composition. Together with the client, we developed a complex system of levels, light coves, air gaps, and the shadowy, floating profiles from Kraab Systems. This allowed us to literally “carve out” the space, creating the effect of invisible architectural graphics where every slice of light accentuates scale and sets the rhythm for the viewer’s gaze.

The lighting is built around a magnetic track system, which I integrated into the ceiling structures with particular attention to symmetry and the beam angles of the light. This lighting doesn't merely illuminate—it accentuates the material, the volume, and even the air itself, transforming the perception of the space depending on the time of day and the rhythm of life within it.

The kitchen is a story of its own. We moved away from the traditional concept of a kitchen as a set of cabinets. Everything here was designed from scratch: a cantilevered structure with no visible supports, suspended from the wall and visually detached from the floor. The facades are solid, with push-to-open mechanisms, and made of acrylic. The functional zone is fully recessed, and the extractor hood is seamlessly integrated into the plane of the work surface. Everything is as clean and precise as a surgical instrument—almost sterile. It’s a kitchen stripped of all excess, yet complete in every way: functional, precise, and architectural.

The furniture in this interior is custom-designed. For me, this is a fundamental approach: I don’t select pieces — I design them. Every cabinet, every niche, every countertop is the result of precise measurements, technical drawings, and prototypes. These pieces are made to order, in close dialogue with craftsmen, with final finishes chosen only after the volumes have been approved. They are not decorative elements — they are architectural components that carry not only function, but identity.

The guest toilet on the ground floor is a manifesto of darkness and texture. It is executed entirely in a black palette. The walls and ceiling are finished in microcement of a deep charcoal shade, featuring a lively, tactile texture. Furniture inserts are made of black veneer with a matte oil finish, matching the tone perfectly. The floor is large-format porcelain stoneware that mimics black marble with white veining, laid with minimal seams. This bathroom feels like a black cube where boundaries dissolve, and you almost enter another dimension. The lighting is subtle, placed only along the edges, softly emphasizing the mass and materiality.

Ванная второго этажа создавалась как антипод чёрного туалета. Это территория спокойствия и минерала. Основной материал — крупноформатный керамогранит с серым бархатистым покрытием и камень с более активной, природной текстурой. Именно на контрасте строится атмосфера. Ванна — встроенная, керамическая, геометрически строгая, с чёткими линиями. Дневной свет скользит по её поверхности, добавляя глубины. Смесители встроены в столешницу, лаконичные, без визуального акцента. Ниши для хранения встроены заподлицо, отделаны черными влагостойкими ламинированными панелями.

In this project, I did not aim for luxury in the conventional sense. My goal was intellectual aesthetics. The purity of line. The honesty of material. Architectural silence. An interior that requires no words because it speaks for itself—through form, light, and the rhythm of space. This is not just “premium renovation,” but an architectural experience. For me, this approach to interior design today is a true mark of maturity and refined taste.
