The Brazil Pavilion at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, held from May 10 to November 23, 2025, presents (RE)INVENÇÃO ((RE)INVENTION). Curated by Luciana Saboia, Eder Alencar, and Matheus Seco, members of the group Plano Coletivo, the project proposes a redefinition of the notion of infrastructure by connecting the ancestral knowledge of the Amazonian territory with contemporary design strategies. It is in dialogue with the Biennale’s overarching theme, Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective., which investigates the relationship between nature and technology while exploring the limits and potentials of both human and artificial intelligence in imagining sustainable – and above all, livable – cities.

The exhibition unfolds in two acts, distributed across the pavilion’s two rooms. The first act revisits archaeological findings in the Amazon, revealing how Indigenous peoples shaped the landscape and developed sophisticated infrastructures over 10,000 years ago. The second act shifts focus to the present, exploring design strategies through examples of architecture and infrastructure. The curatorial approach uses the pavilion’s own structure as a framework to reconfigure its interior spaces. In the first room, the elements rest on the floor, while the installation in the second is remarkably built on the balance of minimal components: cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels, stones, and steel cables.

This system, structurally verified by Marata Engenharia, is composed of modular sets spaced every 1.80 meters horizontally. Each module supports three CLT plates – two vertical panels and one tabletop. The wooden elements are connected by tensioned steel cables, which converge at the central point of the system: a tubular metal profile. The upper cable links the stone blocks, vertical panels, ceiling-mounted pulleys, and the tubular profile, with the stones acting as counterweights. The lower cable connects the tubular profile, tabletop, and a fixed anchor on the floor. Tension in the lower cable redirects vertical reaction forces to the anchor, allowing the tabletop to balance horizontal forces through compression. The entire system, traversed by forces of action and reaction, remains suspended and stable, transforming the room’s spatial experience.
