WELLNESS RESORT
Location: Nuwakot, Nepal
Project: Suryachaur Wellness Resort
Design | Visualization: Ar. Umang Kayastha
Perched on the gentle crest of Nuwakot’s hills, Suryachaur unfolds like a quiet poem—where whispering pines meet open skies, and the distant Himalayas rise like a dream above the morning mist. The wellness resort in Suryachaur seeks to encapsulate that aura.
The architecture adopts a neo-vernacular language, reimagining the forms and materials of traditional Nepalese hill settlements through a contemporary yet rooted touch.
The built form integrates seamlessly with the terrain, using locally sourced stone for retaining walls and pathways, reflecting the traditional craftsmanship of hill settlements. A palette of textured plaster, timber accents, and natural finishes has been chosen to age quietly, adapting subtly to the climate and light.
Verdant roofs, hanging planters, and native shrubs cascade down the facades, softening the boundary between architecture and nature. The landscape is integrated into the architecture, with terraced herb gardens, native flowering beds, and a central stone well that recalls the communal courtyards of rural villages. These features don’t just decorate the space—they revive the spatial rhythms of Nepalese hill life, inviting gathering, and, reinforcing the retreat’s ethos of slow living, healing, and deep connection to place.
