晓蓉园.老川菜位于西安市朱雀大街南段明德盛荟商场三楼，是一家主营川菜料理的餐厅，郭莘空间设计工作室与晓蓉园所属的餐饮品牌合作多年，由我们为晓蓉园西安首店担任室内设计。

Xiaorong Garden · Classic Sichuan Restaurantis situated on the third floor of Mingde Shenghui Mall, South Zhuque Avenue, Xi’an, specializing in authentic Sichuan dishes. Guo Xin Space Design Studio has maintained a long-term partnership with the catering brand operating Xiaorong Garden and was commissioned to design the interior of its debut location in Xi’an.

明德盛荟商场与醒目的明德门异地标识仅有一条马路之隔。明德门是唐长安外郭城的正南门，几年前，明德门遗址保护区启动改造计划，作为商业项目，为了呼应明德门异地标识所用的材质肌理，即红色的铝合金板片，明德盛荟商场以一层灰色冲孔铝板作为建筑外皮，基于场地条件，项目所在商场面向南侧明德门遗址的建筑体，整体呈横长结构。

Mingde Shenghui Mall is separated by just a street from the striking off-site landmark of Mingde Gate—the main southern gate of the outer wall of Tang Dynasty Chang’an. Several years ago, the Mingde Gate Heritage Conservation Zone underwent a renovation initiative. As a commercial project, to echo the material texture of the off-site landmark—red aluminum alloy panels—the mall adopted a facade of gray perforated aluminum plates on its first floor. Due to site constraints, the section of the mall facing the Mingde Gate ruins to the south features an elongated horizontal structure.

原始场地情况

Original site conditions

经过现场勘查，我们认为项目主要面临两个挑战：一是冲孔铝板的建筑外皮影响空间的通透性；二是场地长度接近150米，最宽处为22.6米、最窄处仅为4.75米的狭长结构。

Through on-site investigation, we identified two primary challenges for the project: firstly, the perforated aluminum facade compromises spatial transparency; secondly, the site features an elongated layout measuring nearly 150 meters in length, with widths ranging from 22.6 meters at its broadest to merely 4.75 meters at the narrowest section.

在无法改变场地现状的情况下，我们选择接纳场地特性，并在不断推进项目的进程中，惊喜的发现，接纳的态度会以一种不可思议的方式回馈了我们，看似“劣势”的问题，最后演变成属于项目本身的“场域特质”。而解决了这两个问题，设计也相应的完成了。

Given the constraints of the existing site conditions, we chose to embrace its inherent characteristics. As the project progressed, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that this accepting approach rewarded us in unexpected ways—what initially appeared as “disadvantages” ultimately transformed into the project’s distinctive “sense of place.” By resolving these two challenges, the design naturally reached its completion.

02得闲

Leisure Time

在成都街头巷尾，露天饮坝坝茶的场景，是我们对川蜀地域饮食文化的一份记忆，顺应独特的地理、气候和人文风俗，川人的“闲”，在一碗茶和安逸的氛围中体现得淋漓尽致。

The bustling open-air tea-drinking scenes in Chengdu’s alleys embody our collective memory of Sichuan’s culinary culture. Shaped by the region’s unique geography, climate, and customs, the quintessential Sichuanese leisure (“xian”) finds perfect expression in a simple bowl of tea and an atmosphere of absolute contentment.

在前期测量场地过程中，遇到有太阳的天气，阳光会透过不规则孔洞的铝板照进室内，产生星星点点的光斑，这样的情景宛如阳光穿透树林中层叠的叶片，在地面洒下斑驳光影，让人有一种置身于真实自然的感受。

During the initial site survey, we observed that on sunny days, sunlight would filter through the irregular perforations of the aluminum panels, casting constellations of light spots indoors. This phenomenon resembled sunlight piercing through layered tree canopies, dappling the ground with fragmented shadows—creating an immersive, nature-like ambiance within the architectural space.

这一效果并非装饰性的“设计结果”，而是建筑立面与光环境互动下的“自然发生”。它赋予了空间一种与真实自然相仿的气息，为室内注入“户外的自在”。光在这里不再是附属，而是设计语言的主角。它贯穿整个狭长空间，借由材质、结构与光影关系的精微处理，将场所气质逐层展开。

This effect is not merely a decorative “design outcome,” but rather a “natural occurrence” emerging from the interplay between the building facade and light conditions. It imbues the space with an aura akin to real nature, infusing the interior with a sense of “outdoor freedom.” Here, light transcends its ancillary role to become the protagonist of the design language. Traversing the entire elongated space, it gradually unfolds the spatial character through meticulous treatment of materiality, structure, and the nuanced relationship between light and shadow.

于是，这样的“天然户外感”启发我们只需顺势而为，营造出“露天饮坝坝茶”的场景，设计想要捕捉的“在地”与轻松氛围便得以表达。然而，空间绝非是“场景”的复制，而是通过光影、颜色、材质、设计手法，萃取出“场景”的“意”，以及触达“安逸、巴适”的感知。

Thus, this “natural outdoor sensibility” inspired us to simply follow its lead in recreating the ambiance of “open-air tea-drinking gatherings.” Through this approach, the design effortlessly captured both the “local character” and relaxed atmosphere we sought to express. However, the space is by no means a literal replication of the “scene,” but rather distills its essence through the interplay of light and shadow, color palette, materiality, and design techniques – ultimately evoking the authentic perception of “comfort and pure Sichuanese bliss.”

在项目中，我们选择以竹子作为载体，不仅因其天然的在地特质，更在于它所呈现的温和与质朴，更接近设计想要呈现的“日常感”。

In this project, we chose bamboo as the primary medium, not only for its innate local character but also for the gentle, unpretentious quality it embodies – a perfect alignment with the “sense of everydayness” we sought to convey through our design.

空间中的竹椅、竹凳由成都工匠打造，保留着真实的手作温度，竹编吊灯经过推敲打磨，一反常规体量，昭示出强烈的存在感，这是我们在空间设计中一贯的设计手法，灯光不仅是光线、是氛围，也可以是一个装置，加深客人对空间的记忆点。在晓蓉园项目中，竹编的吊灯还起到聚拢特定“场域”的作用，与餐桌上下对应的吊灯，像一顶草帽，增加了稳稳的遮蔽感。

The bamboo chairs and stools in the space were handcrafted by Chengdu artisans, preserving the authentic warmth of manual craftsmanship. The meticulously refined bamboo pendant lights break conventional scales to assert a strong visual presence—this exemplifies our consistent design approach where lighting transcends mere illumination or ambiance to become an installation that etches the space into guests’ memory. In the Xiaorong Garden project, these woven bamboo pendants perform the additional function of defining specific “zones of inhabitation.” Suspended in precise correspondence with dining tables below, each lamp—reminiscent of a straw hat—imparts a reassuring sense of shelter.

吊灯的高度经过仔细测算，空间顶部由铝板构建出的“梁”结构，一方面可以作为搭载灯光的构件，另一方面，相对轻巧的体量横纵穿插，既建构出秩序感，也丰富了空间的纵向层次。同时，压低的空间高度，与大体量的吊灯，也在一定程度上规避了视线对空间的一览无遗，错落有序，疏密得当。

The height of the pendant lights was carefully calibrated. The beam-like structures formed by aluminum panels on the ceiling serve a dual purpose: functionally as supports for lighting fixtures, and spatially as lightweight elements that intersect horizontally and vertically to create both rhythmic order and enriched dimensional layers. Meanwhile, the intentionally lowered ceiling height, combined with the substantial scale of the pendants, strategically prevents unimpeded visual penetration of the space—achieving a carefully orchestrated balance between density and openness, where elements are deliberately staggered to control spatial perception.

应对狭长结构，在大堂的中段处，老旧的案几柜起到软性分隔区域的作用，重新刷上大红色，有意呼应川菜的热辣，这一抹亮色，犹如川菜中的辣椒，成为点睛之笔。

To address the elongated spatial layout, an antique console cabinet was strategically placed at the mid-point of the lobby, serving as a soft spatial divider. Painted in vibrant vermilion, this deliberate design choice directly echoes the fiery spirit of Sichuan cuisine. Like chili peppers in a Sichuan dish, this bold chromatic accent becomes the defining focal point that elevates the entire composition.

03一字排开

Linear Arrangement

初次勘测场地，“一眼望不到头”是给我们的第一印象，不过，转念一想，横长的结构如果将功能与动线梳理好，也能产生行走的探索趣味，以及“曲径通幽处，禅房花木深”的浪漫想象。

During our initial site survey, the “seemingly endless” spatial perspective left a striking first impression. However, we soon recognized that this elongated linear configuration—when properly organized with programmed functions and circulation paths—could cultivate a sense of exploratory discovery, evoking the poetic Chinese garden principle of “winding paths leading to secluded serenity,” where architectural journey and spatial revelation intertwine.

结合150米长的场地情况，我们在连接主入口的区域，开辟了一个面积较大的接待区，刚一进入，有着沉静开阔的感受，高耸直立的毛竹、以及压低视线的通道，都在强化由前厅进入餐厅大堂的仪式感。

Capitalizing on the 150-meter-long site conditions, we created an expansive reception area adjacent to the main entrance. Upon entry, visitors immediately experience a sense of serene openness, where towering moso bamboo groves and deliberately compressed sightlines work in concert to heighten the ceremonial transition from the foyer into the main dining hall.

设计之初，甲方对餐厅的人均消费设定不足百元，但是我们仍然希望通过灯光、颜色、材质等细节，营造出精致舒适的用餐感受，精致与市井并不矛盾，而是可以实现恰到好处的平衡，从晓蓉园用餐客人平均停留时间较长，也印证了我们的设计，很好的平衡了松弛感和精致感，维持着一种“刚刚好”的舒适状态。我们将空间大致划分为大堂、卡座和包间区、宴会厅三个大的功能区域，并将明档厨房位列空间中段位置，形成一字排开的空间序列。

At the outset of the design process, the client set the restaurant’s target average spending at under 100 RMB per person. Nevertheless, we aspired to create a refined yet comfortable dining experience through meticulous attention to lighting, color schemes, and material selections. Refinement and grassroots authenticity are not mutually exclusive but can achieve a perfectly balanced harmony. The extended average dining duration observed at Xiaorong Garden confirms our design has successfully struck an equilibrium between relaxed informality and sophisticated elegance, maintaining that “just right” state of comfort. We divided the space into three primary functional zones: the main dining hall, booth/private dining areas, and banquet hall, with the open kitchen strategically positioned at the central section to form a linear spatial sequence.

动线的规划上，为了规避掉客人走回头路的情况，我们在空间中设置了三处有接待功能的工作区，均位于三个出入口附近，位于中段的明档厨房，既起到分隔空间区域的作用，烤鸭烹饪区又能兼顾餐厅接待人员的等候区，这样一来，本身是功能必须属性的功能区，同时兼备着不同入口接待客人的功能，狭长的问题便得以解决。

In planning the circulation routes, we strategically positioned three reception-equipped workstations near each entrance to prevent guest backtracking. The central open kitchen serves dual purposes: spatially demarcating zones while its roast duck station functionally extends as a reception holding area. This approach transforms essential functional areas into multi-entry reception hubs, thereby resolving the spatial challenges posed by the elongated layout.

明档厨房，延续我们对品牌旗下餐厅一贯的设计手法，通过砖、木、石材砌筑的方盒子，对外传递出即做即食的餐厅理念和热闹的烟火气。

The open exhibition kitchen continues our signature design approach for the brand’s restaurants, featuring a masonry-clad “box” constructed with brick, timber, and stone. This architectural element vividly communicates the “cooked-to-order” dining philosophy while radiating vibrant culinary energy.

卡座区域位于餐厅中后段，每一个卡座用餐区以半围合的方式有隐有现，缓和的承接两侧区域，使行走序列产生变奏，嵌入墙体内的木雕是狮子滚绣球的图案，象征着吉祥如意。

The booth seating area is situated in the mid-rear section of the restaurant. Each semi-enclosed booth dining zone is partially concealed yet intentionally revealed, gently mediating the transitional space between flanking areas and creating rhythmic variation in the circulation sequence. Embedded within the wall is a wooden carving depicting “Lions Playing with Embroidered Balls” – a traditional motif symbolizing good fortune and prosperity.

整个空间后段区域被包间和宴会厅占据，宴会厅功能区一开始并不在甲方计划之内，我们通过走访调研周边环境后，发现明德门区域居民区和学校比较多，而宴会厅则补充了不同类型的宴请需求。通过移动门的开启，宴会厅可扩充面积，也可以与对向的包间实现联通，灵活多变的调整是对功能使用最好的诠释。

The rear section of the space is occupied by private dining rooms and a banquet hall—the latter being an addition proposed by our team after thorough neighborhood research. Our site analysis revealed that the Mingde Gate area primarily consists of residential communities and schools, making the banquet hall a strategic complement to accommodate diverse catering needs. Equipped with movable partitions, the banquet hall can expand its capacity when fully opened or connect with opposite private rooms, demonstrating optimal functional flexibility through these adaptable configurations.

对晓蓉园.老川菜西安首店的设计实践，有延续品牌旗下餐厅一贯的设计语言，有川蜀在地文化的表达，然而，令我们更为珍视的是接纳之心，是尊重场地条件并顺势演变而来的场域特质，它避免了千篇一律的套路化，而是由内而外“生长”出自己的独特性。

Regarding the design execution of Xiaorong Garden · Traditional Sichuan Cuisine’s inaugural Xi’an location: while maintaining the brand’s consistent design language and expressing authentic Sichuan cultural elements, what we value most is this spirit of acceptance—respecting the site’s inherent conditions and allowing spatial character to evolve organically. This approach avoids formulaic clichés, instead cultivating a distinctive identity that grows intrinsically from within.
