Project Context – Nha Xuan Tay is situated on a small hill in Xuan Tay commune, approximately 8 km away in a straight line. The house was designed for a young family returning to their hometown, seeking a weekend retreat where their children could connect with nature and extended family. Improved infrastructure between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai made this lifestyle more accessible.
Design Approach – The house uses only two main materials, Local Dong Nai bricks and tiles, establishing a consistent tone and texture. This material unity allowed freedom in organizing space and form. A long brick wall runs along the site, organizing living and service areas, while the folded tile roof creates dynamic ceiling heights and filters light along the east-west axis.
Spatial Strategy – The house follows a linear layout to maximize garden access. Extended eaves define key outdoor spaces: the entrance porch, a semi-outdoor living area, and a private veranda for the master bedroom. A small central courtyard doubles as a secure play area and natural ventilation core, drawing breezes from back to front.
Conclusion – Nha Xuan Tay reflects a quiet architectural language—minimal in materials, responsive to climate, and grounded in place. It offers a calm, open setting for family life, centered on connection with nature and simplicity.
