墨尔本大学某建筑适应性再利用项目丨Six Degrees Architects

University of Melbourne

This  project, designed by Six Degrees Architects, required the adaptive reuse of a 1970s building.

Six Degrees Architects response was to highlight its architectural and material integrity, skillfully combining legibly ‘new’ with timeless architectural language.

Aiming to centralise student services in this very accessible and geographically central part of the university campus, this project incorporates facilities for a ‘Student Services Hub’.

Functions and activities conducted from this seven storey building include:

administration

enrollment

information services

cafe

interview rooms

meeting rooms

staff facilities

The Six Degrees Architects design respected and strengthened the character of this previously undervalued Brutalist architectural gem.

Their design re-positioned the old building and presentation of the University to the broader precinct, creating a new ‘front door’ to the campus.

Strong view lines and connections to the garden in front of the 1888 Building were a key design element that led to the building’s success.
