Adjaye’s Princeton University Art Museum to open in October 2025

The
Princeton University Art Museum
has announced it will open its new 146,000-square-foot facility to the public on October 31, 2025. Designed by
Adjaye Associates
, working in collaboration with executive architect
Cooper Robertson
, the building replaces the museum’s previous structure and represents a major expansion in scale. The new facility doubles the museum’s capacity for display, education, and public engagement, with 80,000 square feet dedicated to gallery space.

Situated at the center of
Princeton University’s
campus, the building is conceived as a hub for the arts and humanities. Organized around nine interlocking pavilions, the design emphasizes cultural exchange and accessibility, with entrances on all sides and two interior “artwalks” integrated with site-specific artworks.

The new building also incorporates over 12,000 square feet of educational space, including creativity labs, classrooms, an auditorium, and a Grand Hall. Conservation studios, a restaurant, a museum store, outdoor terraces, and an amphitheater further extend the public offering.

The museum’s curatorial approach will blend geographical, chronological, and thematic displays, reflecting its collection of over 117,000 objects spanning 5,000 years. The institution aims to serve both the academic community and the broader public through its expanded programming and architectural presence.
