A sophisticated bachelor pad in Mumbai with an expansive 2,000-square-foot deck
Perched high above the city, offering sweeping views of the Mumbai skyline and the Arabian Sea, this 6,000-square-foot residence boasts an expansive 2,000-square-foot wrap-around deck — a feature unheard of in Mumbai.
Ashna Lulla
California-based Osāya Architects founder Shreya Porey designed a home in Mumbai for a young bachelor in the trendy precinct of Bandra West. Having lived all around the globe, the bachelor wanted a home that was a cosy haven by day and a chic entertainment space by night – one that could comfortably host up to 100 guests. Reflective of his design-forward spirit, the residence captures the essence of luxury living.
Beige-toned sofa and the accent Chairs by Wabi Sabi Home sits atop a West Elm rug. Black tones punctuate the tone-on-tone palette – a round coffee table from Hatsu and a custom cluster of sleek lights from Zeus Lighting.
A custom media console was designed to conceal a projector screen. Accessorised by reclaimed wood pot, and candle holder from Osaya Home.
Shreya Porey made several structural changes to the apartment, converting the original 4-bedroom, 4-bath layout into a more spacious 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath configuration. Walls were removed to create large, symmetrical open spaces, enhancing the flow and functionality of the residence. She eliminated wall panelling and adopted a restrained colour palette, enhancing the 12-foot ceilings with 10-foot-tall doors, elevating the experience of each space and deepening its connection with material, detail, and function. She stripped back extraneous elements to emphasise the most important, responding to the client’s brief of keeping the home monochromatic, pared-back, and modern.
Strong black accents punctuate the texture-paint walls by Kemtex paints. A slender Ikea Shelf is minimally decorated with rustic pieces from Osaya Home Decor.
Entrance into this bachelor pad is through a lobby accessible by a private elevator, leading to a spacious, open living area framed by floor-to-ceiling windows and generous amounts of sunlight penetrating deep into the space through balconies flanking both sides of the living room. The windows not only frame picturesque views but also ensure a steady sea breeze drifting in and out of the space.

Shreya installed a jacuzzi in the expansive deck, overlooking stunning views of the Mumbai cityscape.
Outdoor Patio Furniture from Rove Concept is complemented by a nested glass coffee table from IKEA. Tall planting softens the space.
A minimal console with a marble-top from West Elm decorates the foyer.
A richness in texture and palette is felt throughout, with muted grey flooring running underfoot, the wall and ceilings in every room, and have a beautiful textured finish that offers a velvety-neutral base. The walls stretch invitingly, offering a clear view of the entire apartment, enveloping the home in a cosy embrace during daylight hours. As dusk sets in and subtle lighting takes over, their character transforms, imbuing the space with luxury. “We made sure we created many seating pockets across the house, allowing people to linger, have long conversations, or watch movies,” Shreya adds. Minimal, sleek and neutral, the interior provides a soft backdrop for custom-designed and commissioned lighting, furniture and artwork. Optimising the 180-degree skyline and sea views, the architects designed a heated jacuzzi for the client on the wrap-around balcony, a luxury in a city like Mumbai.
An oak-finish dining table extends from a black butcher block. Slender tubular lights custom made by Zeus Lighting, cast a soft glow in the space.
A stunning oversized kitchen island, created from a Butcher’s block, in a natural oak-finished wood and a matte black stone island is illuminated by a sleek brass light fixture serving as a focal point. Every element has been considered, with junctions and detailing expressed with precision. Matte black tapware and accents ensure the space feels cohesive and connects to the greater home. “It makes a bold statement while allowing the island to double up as a dining and bar,” Shreya says.
A softly-tufted upholstered bed paired with curved matt black nightstands from Wabi Sabi Design contrast the textured wall and ceiling finish. Sleek pendants from Zeus Lighting hang on either side.
A bathtub occupies centre stage, in this sand-toned master bathroom.
The bedrooms are spaces of quiet retreat designed to maximize light and air that reminds its inhabitants to stop, look around, and breathe in the moment. Two bedrooms and bathrooms were combined to create the master en-suite. A glass door separates the sleeping area from the bath, enhancing flow and visible connections. Minimal yet luxe, the bedroom palette comprises textured walls and ceilings, grey flooring, and upholstered headboards, conducive to relaxation and productive work. Custom joinery discreetly integrates storage and advanced technology, with home automation eliminating the need for traditional switch plates. The interplay of light and dark materials in the bathrooms creates a sophisticated ambience. Furniture and fixtures are designed to be intuitive, with functionality seamlessly integrated into the aesthetic.
Osāya Architects has created a bachelor pad that reflects the homeowner's global outlook and city living at its finest. A home in Mumbai grounded in custom design and exceptional craftsmanship, embodying a new realm of luxury living.
