Text description provided by the architects. Seeking to preserve the original elements of the residence, this retrofit allowed for a perfect dialogue between the contemporary proposal and the existing roots, both of the house and the village itself. We preserved the original structures and proposed demolitions for greater integration and brightness of the spaces.
On the ground floor, the highlight is the green hydraulic tile floor, proposed as a replacement for the old wooden floor that was beyond repair. The green of the floor visually connects to the green of the muxarabie screens on the facade and other elements chosen from the same palette, referencing our Brazilian identity.
On one side, a garden was proposed for a closer connection with nature, visible from various angles in spaces like the kitchen, laundry, and living room. We also preserved and restored the staircase with wooden treads, which was undervalued, previously covered by plaster at the junction with the living room. The proposal was to uncover it and leave it exposed, highlighting the origins of the project.
For the upper floor, we also demolished some walls to expand the bedrooms. The wooden plank floors were restored and maintained. The largest intervention occurs in the bathrooms, with the replacement of coverings bringing traditional white tiles to the walls, which harmonize with the green tiles on the floor.
The renovation of the Casa da Vila was proposed to rescue and respect the existing village aspect, residential and made up of attached houses, while engaging with new concepts, contemporary and in accordance with the needs of its new residents.
