The Sleuk Rith Institute in Phnom Penh brings together a museum, research centre, graduate school, document archives and research library. It has been designed by

Zaha Hadid Architects

and is organized as five wooden structures that are separate volumes at ground level, but interweave and to link together as they rise upwards.

The Sleuk Rith Institute five buildings define an intricate spatial composition of connecting volumes; generating a series of exterior and interior spaces that flow into each other to guide visitors through the different areas for contemplation, education, engagement and discussion.

The architectural design of the Institute is anchored in a Cambodian treasury of values that encompasses the uncompromised beauty of its natural environment, the magnificent architecture of its Khmer temples, and the optimism of its people. Simultaneously, it interprets those values in an artistic vision that shuns the traditional models of memorial architecture.
