There is nothing that makes me feel festive for a change in seasons quite like stying a porch. Winter to spring, summer to fall, I love switching out planters and setting a beautiful scene. We’ve had a few Stagg Design clients hire us for this service from time to time, but this year we decided to make it official and offer

. The response has been huge! (check out all of our services here) We’ve loved setting your homes up for fall and today I’m sharing one of those: the lovely porch belonging to the lovely Jenna Rammell.

This service was perfect for Jenna. She’s a busy entrepreneur and mom of four who wants her home to feel warm and inviting (I mean come on, it’s gorgeous and the perfect palette!), but wanted our help pulling it together quickly and professionally.

Jenna asked me to share a few tips with her followers while we were setting things up, and I want to share them here too. I’ve got a tried and true process that really takes a porch to the next level.

Tip 1: A Lot of Pretty Pumpkins

Pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins. To achieve the perfect proportion of pumpkins to porch, you’ll need to double what you think you need. In my experience, Trader Joes has the best price for ornamental pumpkins, but you can find them everywhere from grocery stores to your traditional pumpkin patch. For Jenna’s porch we went with a muted palette of pale oranges and pinks, pale greens, and white “ghost” pumpkins. I also love mixing sizes and shapes.

2. Think Outside of Just Mums

Don’t get me wrong, mums are beautiful. They are a fall staple. Yet, they aren’t my favorite choice for fall foliage. There, I said it. I like mixing in mums here and there, but I prefer stacking my porches with something more hearty and freeze resistant. I look for foliage like ornamental cabbages and kales, grasses, Coleus, and boxwoods.

3. Add in Some Pretty Accents

For Jenna’s porch, we used some beautiful straw wreaths tied with ribbon, lanterns with battery operated candles, layered some rugs, and my favorite touch: the black crows we perched on her boxwood trees. After Halloween, she can take them off and keep the porch up through Thanksgiving.
