In 1882 the railway reached Muizenberg as part of Cecil John Rhodes' great vision for a Cape to Cairo rail network. The train from Park Station in Johannesburg went direct to Muizenberg via a loop at Salt River.

In 1913 the present

Edwardian

styled station with its impressive clock tower was completed as well as several hotels. It suited the ambience of Muizenberg as South Africa's premier holiday resort.
