Maslina Resort Design Project, Hvar Island, Croatia

Discover the design project of Maslina, an olive-inspired Dalmatian resort in historic Stari Grad on the sunny island of Hvar, Croatia. Maslina (which translates as the olive) is a luxury, eco-friendly, contemporary-designed resort. This olive-inspired Dalmatian resort is located on the sunny island of Hvar, in the historic Stari Grad (The Old Town) in Croatia. As the name suggests, Maslina is surrounded by spindly olive groves and terraced vineyards. The resort offers 33 rooms, 17 suites, and three villas, nestled in two hectares of fragrant pine forest, overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

Architecture and Design in Touch with the Rich Cultural and Natural Heritage of Hvar Island

This Adriatic seaside luxury spot is part of the Relais and Châteaux collection of resorts, villas, boutique hotels, and gourmet restaurants. Architecture is the work of Croatian architect Tomislav Alujevic, while French interior designer Léonie Alma Mason and landscape architect Thomas Seconde complemented the architecture with their designs, always respecting the rich cultural and natural heritage of Hvar Island.

Project Goal – Creating a Designer Space That Makes Guests Feel Like They Are at Home

Local Brac Island stone, exotic iroko wood, brushed brass, and tones of terracotta are harmonized with the natural color scheme. Custom-made interiors and carefully handpicked vintage furniture pieces complete a designer space that is intimate, comfortable, and delicately designed with the guest in mind.

On this resort design project, Internova, a wooden tailor-made furniture manufacturer from Croatia, was the main interior contractor. 80% of interior furniture is custom made, developed in collaboration with the main interior designer. Through customization, samples, and testing, the main focus was directed to every single detail, from shapes, sizes, materials, and comfort. The project goal was to design a space that makes guests feel like they are at home, said the designer.

Natural and Stylish – Color Scheme and Materials

From exotic iroko wood, natural oak, hexagonal brushed brass accessorizes, lava stone tables to delicately picked fabrics that bring charm to interior space – the palette of materials created a natural and stylish place.

Special attention was given to the interior bar and restaurant where the designer wanted to reflect the same feeling inside-out of the hotel. The Nature-inspired feeling was created by applying a color scheme and materials to represent four natural elements surrounding the hotel: pearly rocks, dense green pine forest, crystal-clear blue Adriatic Sea, and salty summer breeze. Custom-made benches, upholstered with soft velvet fabric in warm, appealing shapes, express comfort and French chic style through the design language. Bespoke armchairs which surround sofas give the entire space a touch of classic luxury.

Custom-Made Wooden Furniture in the Hotel Rooms

Hotel rooms are equipped with iroko wood or oak wood, depending on which floor of the hotel the room is situated on. From travel trunks (luggage wardrobe look-like) to custom-made beds and headboards to all interior and sliding doors. All FFE elements were provided and coordinated with Internova.

Together with the interior designer, the Croatian furniture brand developed and produced bespoke wooden bathtubs. Wooden soaking tubs owe their heritage to the Eastern tradition of relaxation in harmony with natural surroundings. The designer has successfully developed the design of the bathtub, combining Japanese simplicity and harmony through plain design with the Western concept of luxury, leisure, and comfort. The interior of the bathtub is made out of Corian material to create the sleek impression of a single flowing surface.

The back of the bathtub and the exterior side is made completely out of exotic iroko wood, protected with natural oil to preserve its natural look. Custom-made brushed brass cover with engraved logo of the hotel and iroko tray gives the special touch of luxury.

For Maslina Resort 5*, bathtubs are made in three different sizes: freestanding and in-built versions. These wooden bathtubs are the centerpiece of the guestroom bathroom, a luxury of fine art furniture.
