Urban bird nest amplifies birds’ tweet to improve cities’ soundscapes

, proposed a stylish urban bird nest that provides shelter and food in change of relaxing chirps and tweets. The design is part of the
Naturalist
project that involved emerging designers to rebalance nature and urban environment.
The urban bird nest is composed by a oak base and a copper cage-like structure that is large enough to allow birds to feel comfortable and be free. Inside a climbing plant grows until hiding the metal parts creating a welcoming suspended bush.

A copper trumpet-looking speaker hosts a birds’ perch. In the central hole of the cone a seeds dispenser allows the animals to feed.

Natural sounds make annoying city noises more bearable. It is proved that such a sound therapy has beneficial effects on the human biological clock and helps keep in touch with nature in urban environment

is a young designer from Saint Petersburg. After an ‘Interior design’ Master’s degree at Stiegletz St. Petersburg State Academy of Art and Industry, she mainly works with furniture, product and space designs.

Naturalist
project involved emerging designers to create furnitures and accessories that could re-introduce nature to urban apartments. The collection of 18 products ranged from hanging and wall-mounted planters, to furniture made using natural materials such as bark and marble.
Inspirations varied from nature as such to nature on a planetary scale, relations of nature and architecture, traditional materials in a contemporary context and visual technics for emotional unity with nature.
