Feurigstrasse 21教堂改造住宅丨德国柏林丨Bundschuh

Feurigstrasse 21项目位于德国柏林舍讷贝格区（Schöneberg），其前身为一座卫理公会教堂。教堂最初建于1928年，是当时新开发城区中一座独立式建筑。二战期间大部分被毁，1950年代重建后由一韩国卫理公会教会使用，直至2015年。此后，项目由建筑师主导发起，将这座教堂改造为住宅综合体，并新增一栋朝街而建的现代公寓楼。整个项目采用“建设团体”（Baugruppe）模式开发，其中原教堂内包含8套住宅，新增建筑中包含6套。

The former methodist church was first built in 1928 as a free standing structure within the -then newly developed – block structure of the Berlin District of Schöneberg. Mostly destroyed in WW II, the church was rebuilt in the 50‘s and used by a Korean methodist congregation until 2015. Initiated by the architects, the church building was then repurposed as part of an ensemble which includes a new condominium building facing the street. Organized as a building group, the project houses 8 Apartments in the old church and 6 more in the new building.

在城市尺度上，该项目质疑柏林街区传统的等级性格局，提出了一种“异质共构”（heterarchical）的空间形式，从而挑战人口密集的城市环境中公私空间的传统定义。社区精神——曾是教堂空间的核心特质——在改造中得以延续。所有住宅围绕中央庭院展开，嵌入景观花园之中，彼此之间形成开放或私密的多重绿色空间，如庭院、露台和花园。这些空间既鼓励交流，又允许个体退隐，明确体现出以社区为导向的设计理念。

On the urban scale, the project questions the hierarchic essence of the Berlin block structure and proposes a series of heterarchical spaces that question the conventional and existing notions of public and private space in densely populated inner-city environments. The spirit of community – which was very much a characteristic of the old church – is continued as a theme into the new, secular function. Grouped around a central square and set within an idyllic, landscaped garden, all units face the common areas and provide various green spaces, gardens and terraces. They varyingly foster communication or enable seclusion, yet all are clearly thought as community-oriented spaces.

教堂独特的几何结构造就了高度个性化的住宅单元，反映了城市生活方式的多样性。建筑原有的结构和元素被重新赋予新功能：原教堂正门及其大门廊如今成为私人花园的出口和富有戏剧感的露台；昔日的钟楼（已不再设有钟）则变为顶层公寓的入口塔楼，为居住其中的艺术家夫妇营造出一场戏剧性的归家仪式。▼轴测图，axonometric drawing©Bundschuh Architekten

The geometry of the church structure has led to living units of high specificity and individuality, this reflects the many different models of (urban) living reflected within the building group. Specific characteristics and spatial elements of the church have been repurposed and given new functions: The former main entrance doors and their large porch are now no longer the gathering place of the congregation but the exit to a private garden and a dramatic and fun terrace. The old bell tower (now devoid of its bells…!) is used as the entrance tower for the top apartment, providing a dramatic entry scenography for the owners, an artist and his musician husband.

在教堂原本的中殿空间中，三层通高的起居区域延续了教堂空间的垂直感，以抽象和概念性的方式呼应历史，同时创造出现代、灵活的家庭生活空间。各户型均设有直接通往庭院的出入口，室外空间的布局遵循细致的隐私层级划分，既强化了社区氛围，也赋予了“阈限空间”独特的户外生活品质。

In the former nave of the church, triple height spaces recall the verticality of the old space, weaving an abstract and conceptual connection to the past while at the same time providing contemporary and flexible living spaces for families. The entrances directly from the garden are part of a subtle privacy zoning of outdoor spaces that offer a strong feeling of community while at the same time defining the threshold spaces as places of unique outdoor quality.

项目改造过程中的一大挑战，是1950年代重建时留下的材料品质低劣，这些问题在施工过程中逐步显现。因此，修复与更新的策略重点在于尽可能保留教堂原有结构和材料，同时延续其精神内核与空间意象，将神圣的空间逻辑转译为当代世俗生活的载体。

A major challenge was the poor quality of the post-war materiality which was discovered in the construction process somewhat piece by piece. The renovation and repurposing aimed to preserve both as much as possible of the actual physical structure of the church building as well as of its conceptual essence.
