RATHER THAN ENDLESS CREATION, THERE IS BEAUTY IN PRESERVING.
In a design world focused on innovation, the idea that “preserving is more important than creating” challenges conventional views of sustainability. Rather than constantly producing “green” products, true sustainability might lie in re-purposing and honoring existing materials. Integrating secondhand and vintage items into design breaks free from trend cycles. This approach shifts sustainable design from mere production to a deeper respect for materials, creating spaces that are timeless, creative and environmentally conscious.
The decor incorporates reclaimed materials, such as shells and plastic waste from the shore, transformed into countertops and wall art. These elements convey a narrative of rebirth and environmental consciousness, adding depth and vibrancy to the atmosphere. Materials like cellulose- blend wallpaper, handcrafted bricks, and reclaimed wood enrich the space, bringing warmth and understated luxury.
Brass elements further enhance timeless ambiance. With its natural luster and gradual oxidation, brass adds a touch of history and elegance, used in accent pieces like lighting, handles, and coffee table. Its durability and recyclability make it a sustainable choice, embodying eco-conscious ethos.
The combination of deep red and natural wood tones creates a harmonious atmosphere, The reception counter, adorned with locally crafted wood carvings, beautifully connects cultural artistry with the passage of time.
An expansive olive green sets a calming base. To add contrast and liveliness, lemon yellow, purple timber flooring and brass accents are used sparingly, adding layers of intrigue to the setting.
Each decorative items in the space are handpicked from various cultures worldwide. These art pieces are valued not by the fame, age or price, but purely as expressions of art to be appreciated in their own. Together, these details create a space that celebrates the stories and histories embodied by each item, where heritage meets artistic authenticity in a timeless, welcoming environment.
The room is achieved by incorporating a significant amount of locally crafted installations alongside the Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional method of wood charring that provides enhanced resistance to decay and moisture, effectively reducing maintenance needs.
The ceiling is minimal, with a single pendant light, avoiding complex overhead wiring and allowing natural light to take center stage during the day. Evening lighting is placed only below eye level, creating a soft, romantic ambiance while reducing repair needs and energy consumption. This eco-conscious design aesthetic beauty and sustainability, celebrating the daily transition while prioritizing environmental responsibility.
