GUMEI SCHOOL SHANGHAI - ENTRANCE GATE CONCEPT DESIGN
The project for the renewal of the Gumei School entrance in Shanghai focuses on giving a fresh and recognizable identity to an old and outdated gate with a very limited budget. Two simple design concepts have been developed: both emphasize the idea of a welcoming gate with a protective canopy, the school name in clear visibility, a guard room, and an automatic sliding gate.
The façade is composed of two types of sheet metal: a slightly corrugated surface combined with flat, vividly colored panels in yellow and red, bringing a playful and vibrant character to the school’s frontage.
In addition to the entrance, the proposal also explores the possibility of creating an underground parking area beneath the playground, as well as installing a totem sign along the nearby avenue to highlight the school’s presence in the neighborhood.
