The important nodes of the central axis of the city and the characteristic traces of the site

项目建设地点位于梅州市江南新城核心区，项目用地北侧紧邻剑英公园，南侧为新城发展轴线。江南新城是梅州城区扩容提质的龙头项目，是嘉应新区的起步区和核心区，围绕“宜居宜业宜游、新城新区新貌”的建设目标，打造粤闽赣边区域性中心城市、广东生态适宜型产业集聚区、山区绿色崛起的重要引擎、广东文化旅游特色区的核心区、乡贤回归投资兴业的重要载体。

The project construction site is located in the core area of Jiangnan New Town in Meizhou. The project site is adjacent to Jianying Park to the north and the Jiangnan New Town Development Axis to the south. Jiangnan New Town is a leading project in the expansion and quality improvement of Meizhou’s urban area. It is the starting and core area of Jiaying New District, with the construction goals of creating a “habitable, business-friendly, and tourist-attractive New Town with a fresh look.” The aim is to build it into: a regional center city at the junction of Guangdong, Fujian, and Jiangxi; a cluster area for ecologically suitable industries in Guangdong; an important engine for green development in mountainous areas; a core area of Guangdong’s cultural tourism zone; and a key carrier for attracting investments from foreign entrepreneurs returning to their hometowns.

剑英湖公园是梅州市的公益性市民公园，原有面积410亩，未来将扩大到894亩，在保留剑英公园原有公益性、市民文化休闲基本属性的基础上，对剑英湖公园进行改造提升，新增景观绿化、园区道路，以欢乐梅州为主题，建设儿童乐园、客家风情街等。

两馆一场作为剑英湖片区重要的公共空间节点，希望项目建成之后，不单纯使一个展览空间，而是成为梅州市民、儿童、工作人员、外来游客等的聚集场所，通过对空间的重新梳理营造，创造出一片具有特色吸引力的城市标志性公共空间。

Jianying Lake Park is a public civic park in Meizhou, originally covering an area of 410 mu (approximately 27 hectares) and will be expand to 894 mu (approximately 60 hectares). While retaining its original public welfare and cultural leisure attributes, Jianying Lake Park will undergo renovation and enhancement, adding new landscaping, greenery, and park roads. With the theme of “Happy Meizhou,” the park will feature children’s playgrounds and Hakka cultural streets and so on.

The “Two Halls and One Plaza” will serve as a significant public space node within the Jianying Lake area. The aim is that after the project’s completion, it will not merely be an exhibition space but also a gathering place for Meizhou’s residents, children, staff, and tourists. Through the reorganization and creation of the space, it will transform into a distinctive and attractive urban landmark public space.

在场地内部，存有座一层夯土墙体旧围屋，屋架主体结构为木檩条。该房屋坐东朝西，外墙、内墙均为混合砂浆抹灰扫白饰面，地面为水泥砂浆找平压光。围屋目前处于空置废弃状态。室内墙体老化严重，局部已坍塌，多处墙体开裂风化，屋面木檩条老化、变形。

Inside the site, there is an old earthen wall courtyard house with a one-story structure. The main structure of the house is supported by wooden purlins. The house faces east to west, with both the exterior and interior walls finished with a mixed mortar plaster and whitewashed surface. The floor is leveled and polished with cement mortar. Currently, the courtyard house is vacant and abandoned. The interior walls are severely aged, with partial collapses and many cracks and weathering. The roof’s wooden purlins are also shabby and deformed.

空间营建：营建城市核心区高质量开放空间

Space Construction: Building High-Quality Open Spaces in Urban Central areas

两馆作为南部新城重要的城市公共建筑，是一个非常开放的场所，在设计中，广场面向城市以及水面打开，为城市提供了一个开放性的城市客厅。两馆造型圆润、温婉，围绕中心几何圆形广场，呈汇聚之势，成为剑英湖南岸的视觉焦点。建筑外部流线与内部流线整合统一考虑，使整个场地空间得到充分、合理、高效的利用。

The Two Halls, as important urban public buildings in the Southern New Town, are designed to be very open spaces. The plaza opens up towards the city space and the water, providing an open city living room. The Two Halls have a rounded, gentle form, centered around a geometric circular plaza, creating a converging effect that makes them the visual focus of the south shore of Jianying Lake. The design integrates the external and internal circulation lines, ensuring the fully, reasonably, and efficiently utilize of the whole site.

项目总用地面积约41741.22平方米，总建筑面积为46874.23平方米，其中地上建筑面积为13822.86平方米，地下建筑面积为33051.37平方米。城市馆地上首层层高4.2m，夹层3.6m，二层最低处净高2.5m最高处净高8.5m。主要展厅层为两层，首层展厅层层高7.8m，二层展厅层最低处净高2.5m最高处净高8.5m。檐口高度为10.5m，屋面最高点17.75m。科技馆地上一层，檐口高度为6.8m，大馆屋顶最高点为15m，小馆屋顶最高点13.8m。

The total land area of the project is approximately 41,741.22 square meters, with a total building area of 46,874.23 square meters. Of this, the above-ground building area is 13,822.86 square meters, and the underground building area is 33,051.37 square meters. The first floor of the City Pavilion has a floor height of 4.2 meters, with a mezzanine height of 3.6 meters. The second floor’s lowest ceiling height is 2.5 meters, with the highest at 8.5 meters. The main exhibition hall has two levels, with the first floor’s ceiling height at 7.8 meters, and the second floor’s lowest ceiling height at 2.5 meters, with the highest at 8.5 meters. The eave height is 10.5 meters, and the highest point of the roof is 17.75 meters. The Science Pavilion has one above-ground level with an eave height of 6.8 meters. The top of the large hall roof is 15 meters, and the top of the small hall roof is 13.8 meters.

建筑群体顺应城市公共空间，与环境融为一体。设计上控制建筑高度，建筑以谦逊、低矮的姿态占据剑英湖公园一角，中央广场开合转折，连接城市与滨水空间。与客家“内敛”“包容”的特质相得益彰。两馆建筑成为剑英湖畔“璀璨的明珠”。

The building complex seamlessly integrates with the urban public space and blends harmoniously with the environment. The designer controls the building height, to give it a modest and low-profile manner. The structures occupies a corner of Jianying Lake Park. The central plaza opens and twists, connecting the city with the waterfront space, complementing the Hakka characteristics of “reserve” and “inclusiveness.” The Two Halls buildings therefore become the “brilliant pearls” on the shores of Jianying Lake.

场地处理：并置历史与现代，链接过去和未来

Site proposal: Juxtaposing History and Modernity, Linking Past and Future

设计中保留基地现场现存围屋，将其纳入城市规划展览馆的设计范围，体现城市的“过去、现在、未来”的主题。该理念得到市领导的充分肯定和认可，设计深化一直也在此基础上进行展开。围屋作为场地中的历史元素，应被保留下来，无论其是否划分为保护建筑都不应拆除。围屋的存在作为城市的记忆纳入到两馆的设计当中，其对场地环境的影响，对城市的价值远不限于其使用功能，更在于其长期传递给城市及市民的历史信息，是一个非常宝贵的元素。这种新旧的并置与平衡，既体现了决策者对未来的远见，也体现了建设者对历史的尊重，避免了将城市推向千城一面的窘境，也展现了现代人对传统所应持有的理性态度。

The existing courtyard house is preserved on the site, as part of the urban planning scheme of the exhibition hall to reflect the theme of the city’s “past, present, and future.” This concept has been fully endorsed and recognized by the city officials, and the design has proceeded on this basis. It is considered that the courtyard house, as a historical element of the site, should be preserved and not demolished, regardless of its classification as a protected building or not. Its presence serves as a memory of the city, integrated into the design of the Two Halls. The value of the courtyard house to the site and city is far beyond its functional use; it conveys historical information to the city and its citizens in the long term, making it a valuable element. This juxtaposition and balance of old and new demonstrate both the foresight of the decision-makers and the builders’ respect for history, avoiding the homogenization of the city’s appearance. This also shows a rational attitude towards the tradition in the modern era.

两馆现代造型，与传统围屋相互呼应，历史与现代并存。围屋合理、科学的保留，在城市馆与围屋之间围合出一个小型广场，供民俗非遗表演和举办市民活动使用。保留围屋建筑作为客家日常生活文化相关活动的展示场所，延续城市历史文脉，展现客家不忘历史、尊重传承的精神。围屋作为城市馆展示的外延伸，提供历史的线索，人们在广场上，感受新旧时代的对话。

The modern design of the Two Halls complements the traditional courtyard house, creating a coexistence of history and modernity. The sensible and scientific preservation of the courtyard house creates a small plaza between the City Pavilion and the courtyard house, which can be used for folk intangible cultural heritage performances and civic activities. The preserved courtyard house serves as a venue for activities related to Hakka daily life and culture, continuing the city’s historical context and demonstrating the Hakka spirit of remembering history and respecting heritage. As an extension of the City Pavilion’s exhibition space, the courtyard house provides historical clues, allowing people in the plaza to experience a dialogue between the old and new eras.

界面重塑：重塑城市界面，构建特色场所

Interface Redesign: Reshaping Urban Interfaces and Creating Distinctive Places

现状围屋与南北城市轴线存有夹角，设计通过设置一条南北走向的景观廊，形成广场东侧新的城市界面，功能上为市民休息和遮蔽场所。使城市广场和保留围屋之间形成一个过度的公共空间，整合了新旧建筑，连通入口广场及公交车站下客点与城市展览馆入口。景观廊作为广场的舞台背景，作为群众性、娱乐性活动场地的服务设施使用。景观廊本身可作为室外展廊，与城市展览馆及围屋功能上共享使用。

The existing courtyard house forms an angle with the north-south urban axis. The design introduces a north-south oriented landscape corridor, creating a new urban interface on the east side of the plaza, serving as a rest and shelter area for citizens. This creates a transitional public space between the city plaza and the preserved courtyard house, integrating the old and new buildings, connects the entrance plaza, bus stop drop-off point, and the entrance of the urban exhibition hall. The landscape corridor serves as the stage backdrop for the plaza, providing facilities for mass and recreational activities. It can also function as an outdoor gallery, sharing its use with the urban exhibition hall and the courtyard house.

游览路径：精心设计的展览漫游体验

Itinerary: Carefully Designed Exhibition Roaming Experience

城市馆观众由南侧沿城市中轴进入主广场，主入口在中心主广场东侧，公众进入城市馆，分别经过门厅、序厅、常设展厅，在展厅尽头有楼梯连往二层，进入专题展区。最后到达总规模型展厅，主要观看平台设置在二层。关于总规模型展厅，贵宾可由序厅直接由扶手电梯连通至二层观看平台，也可由首层环廊上到二层平台，不同视角观看总规模型。城市馆主入口及办公入口均设置无障碍设施，残疾人由此可乘电梯到达展厅。主入口空间设置残疾人卫生间。

Visitors to the City Pavilion enter the main plaza from the south along the urban axis. The main entrance is located on the east side of the central main plaza. Upon entering the City Pavilion, the public will pass through the foyer, preface hall, and permanent exhibition hall. At the end of the exhibition hall, there is a staircase leading to the second floor, where the special exhibition area is located. The visit concludes at the large-scale master plan model exhibition hall, which shows the master planning result of the city, with the main viewing platform set on the second floor. For VIPs, an escalator connects directly from the preface hall to the second-floor viewing platform, offering different perspectives of the large-scale master plan model. Both the main entrance and the office entrance of the City Pavilion are equipped with accessibility features, allowing disabled visitors to use an elevator to reach the exhibition halls. The main entrance area also includes a restroom for disabled visitors.

展览期间，贵宾、赞助商沿贵宾通道到达首层的贵宾接待区，再通过电梯到达二层的总规模型展厅和专用看台。常设展厅有扶手梯直接引至二层总规模型展厅空间，流线简短。办公人员的独立出入口位于建筑东侧，由电梯连接各层。展品卸货区位于地下，靠近东侧办公区域。货物电梯与办公区域电梯合用，连接各层展览和办公空间。

During exhibitions, VIPs and sponsors can use the VIP passage to reach the VIP area on the first floor and then take the elevator to the second-floor large-scale master plan model exhibition hall and dedicated viewing platform. The permanent exhibition hall has an escalator directly connecting to the second-floor large-scale master plan model exhibition space, ensuring a concise flow. The independent entrance for office staff is located on the east side of the building, with an elevator connecting all floors. The exhibit unloading area is situated underground, near the east office area. The freight elevator is shared with the office elevator, connecting each exhibition and office space.

科技馆主展厅及演艺汇演厅由公共空间连接，主体平层布置，由大小两个馆构成，分设出入口满足独立分区使用。

The main exhibition hall and performance hall of the Science Pavilion are connected by a public space. The pavilion consists of two parts, one large and one small, have separate entrances to facilitate independent use of each part.
