Text description provided by the architects. The Willgottheim-Woellenheim multipurpose hall is set within a site of rare quality, defined by a gently rolling, predominantly green landscape.
The building is positioned on the footprint of the former pump track, nestled into the slope. The continuity between the natural terrain it leans against and the green roofs makes the hall almost invisible from the Kochersberg. In contrast, the generous opening of the west façade gives the building a striking, almost theatrical presence when seen from the road and the southern entrance of the village.
This position frees up a wide forecourt in front of the building, above the embankment, and the main field. Both the hall and the adjoining festive lawn take full advantage of the site's natural belvedere position, opening generously onto the surrounding landscape.
Balancing tradition and innovation, solidity and lightness, shelter and openness, the building's design remains guided by a strong sense of coherence and harmony with both its immediate and broader context.
The architectural approach was driven by high thermal performance objectives, aiming for low operating costs and optimal comfort in all seasons. With its compact, semi-buried form and efficient envelope, the building aspires to achieve a passive energy standard.
