In Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh, Ark4lab of Architecture has turned a beauty salon into something unexpected. Stellar Beauty Salon reads more like a sculptural installation than a place to get your nails done—and that’s entirely the point.

The concept draws from celestial themes, translating abstract astronomical concepts into tactile design language. Fluid curves and circular cutouts create a sense of movement and rhythm, while the colour palette—warm taupe through to muted bronze—wraps everything in a calm, otherworldly feel.

Light is everything here. A large oval skylight floods the space with natural light, which bounces off the plaster surfaces and brings out their subtle sheen. Suspended metal pendants drop from above like a constellation, while spherical lights dot the space, their glow guiding you through the soft, curving pathways.

The custom furniture seamlessly integrates into the interior. Every detail—from recessed lounge nooks to marble bases holding glowing orbs—feels intentional. The space manages to feel both still and in motion, creating a sanctuary where getting a treatment becomes part of a bigger sensory experience.

Going beyond typical salon design, this commercial interior creates an atmosphere that balances function with moments of beauty. The space works hard (it’s still a salon, after all) but it also offers something more: a place where the everyday ritual of beauty becomes something to pause over.

In a city known for bold architecture, Stellar Beauty Salon takes a different approach. It’s quieter, more considered, but no less impactful. The earthly meets the cosmic in a space that proves commercial design doesn’t have to compromise on capturing a feeling.
