a modular storage unit that can be used in a versatile manner.

Hug Storage responds to the growing diversity of modern lifestyles.

Today, more and more people live alone or in smaller spaces, each with their own way of life. These shifts in household composition influence not only how people organize their homes but also how they spend their time within them. Consequently, there is an increasing demand for modular furniture that can adapt to the diverse ways people live.

At first glance, Hug Storage presents itself as a simple yet elegant object that naturally blends into its surroundings. Crafted with honest materials and refined manufacturing techniques, it can be easily assembled using just two screws and stacked to form shelving. Its lightweight, minimalist design allows for effortless movement and flexible placement, while its versatility and carefully considered details make it perfectly suited to a wide range of lifestyles.

Multiple iterations were explored throughout the design process, encompassing a wide range of forms and ideas. From 3D prototypes and paper mock-ups to veneer models and full-scale prototypes, the design was refined through repeated testing to perfect every detail.

The form and details have been carefully refined to ensure the product naturally integrates into a variety of spaces. To achieve a minimal, cohesive appearance, joint elements were concealed and the assembly process was simplified to its essentials.

The product is assembled using two sets of custom screws and joiners. This is made possible by the shelf’s tapered form.

Another advantage of the tapered form is that Hug Storage units can be easily stacked without the need for additional components or tools.

Considering the various electronic devices and lighting products that can be placed on Hug Storage, a detachable magnetic component is integrated to allow cables to pass through, further enhancing the product’s flexibility in use.

The design is currently under further development, going through tests to endure real-life use.
