CENTRAL HARLEM TOWNHOUSE
Residential Renovation // New York, NY
The Central Harlem Townhouse renovation reimagines an historic brownstone floor-through apartment for contemporary urban living while preserving the character and craftsmanship of its original architecture.
The project pairs restoration with strategic reconfiguration—aligning ceiling lines, opening sightlines, and introducing unified millwork and material palettes to create a more coherent and adaptable home.
As designer and project manager, I guided the work from concept through construction, coordinating communication, documentation, and on-site execution to maintain design integrity throughout the process.
The result is a layered interior that connects architecture and interiors in a unified visual language—balancing proportion, flow, and crafted detail.
KITCHEN + DINING
Walls were removed and ceiling lines aligned to create an open, balanced sequence of rooms. Color, millwork, and lighting unify the reconfigured space into a single visual composition.
KITCHEN AISLE + PENINSULA
Opening the partition and reorganizing the kitchen created a social core for cooking and gathering, while unified materials tie the aisle back to the lounge and dining areas.
MODULAR STORAGE + HOSPITALITY WALL
A continuous storage and hospitality wall anchors the kitchen–dining zone. Modular components were combined into a unified system integrating display storage, a bar, a utility closet, and a built-in banquette with concealed storage.
PRIMARY // NEW BATHROOM
The primary bath is a new addition created by reconfiguring part of the existing bedroom footprint. A former laundry passthrough closet was incorporated into the layout, allowing the apartment to gain a proper ensuite bathroom and walk-in closet for the first time. This reorganization establishes a true primary suite with improved privacy, utility, and spatial coherence.
SECONDARY // ORIGINAL BATHROOM
The secondary bathroom reflects design work completed in an earlier phase of the apartment’s renovation. Though carried out prior to the most recent reconfiguration, it establishes many of the material and spatial principles that informed the later upgrades. The room was transformed from a visually cluttered, mismatched space into a simplified, cohesive bath with a quieter palette and clearer spatial order.
PLANS // EXISTING + PROPOSED
The existing plan relied on compartmentalized rooms, an enclosed galley kitchen, and storage distributed in small, disconnected pockets. The renovation reorganizes several internal zones to improve functional relationships and visual continuity. Key moves include opening the kitchen to the dining and lounge areas, consolidating storage, and carving a new ensuite bath and walk-in closet from the original primary bedroom. These adjustments create a more coherent and adaptable layout.
