We are delighted to share that our design for the conversion and refurbishment of the Hyparschale Magdeburg has been shortlisted for the prestigious DAM Prize 2026, organized by the 

architekturmuse

um. 

The finalists for the prize will be announced on September 25, 2025 at the Architekturgalerie in Berlin. Fingers crossed!

马格德堡双曲壳大厅建于1969年，是结构工程师

乌尔里希·米特（Ulrich Müther）

Built in 1969, the Hyparschale in Magdeburg is one of approximately fifty shell buildings by structural engineer Ulrich Müther that still exist. After standing vacant for over twenty years, the severely deteriorated multipurpose hall was comprehensively restored and converted to plans by gmp.

Our design emphasizes preserving the striking spatial quality of the shell roof while transforming the hall

into a vibrant, multifunctional venue for events and exhibitions. Listed as a protected building since 1998, the hall presented the challenge of balancing historic preservation with contemporary programmatic needs. The result is a renewed Hyparschale

—

an exemplary model for both the conservation and modernization of Müther’s works and other post-war modernist structures, while also showcasing gmp’s expertise in the sensitive refurbishment of East German modernist architecture.

Evaluation Criteria and Significance）

The evaluation procedure is led by an expert jury, in combination with recommendations from the architectural associations of the German federal states.
