Сhildren's clinic
Year_2018Stage_CompetitionLocation_Putilkovo village, Russia
The competition was organized by one of Russia's biggest development company. The competition challenged the designers to propose a design concept for the interiors of a clinic for 600 childrens, incorporating the company's design principles for children's interiors. The flooring materials used were from Tarkett, the competition partner, and the overall project budget was limited.
The concept is based on a children's wooden construction set—a set of simple geometric shapes in various colors. The shapes are enlarged, and the colors are muted. Each floor in the building has its own color, but to avoid oversaturation, this color is introduced as an accent—it's used in the central part of the corridor, which we enter upon exiting the elevator lobby or stairwell (which serves as a navigation area), as well as in furniture and office signs. For the convenience of visitors, the restrooms on all floors are painted blue, and the corridor ends with a gray frame, delineating the tree zone.
Tree as a symbol of life
In many Soviet clinics, recreation areas were filled with potted plants, and today, in medical institutions around the world, you can find fully-fledged winter gardens. We can't afford such luxury in the clinic we're designing. However, there's room for one large plant, and it was chosen deliberately – a tree at the end of a long corridor is a true source of optimism and a reminder that all illnesses will surely pass, life will go on, and your baby, warmed by the sun's rays, will grow up healthy and happy.
