Villa in Almaty
A contemporary countryside residence set on an elevated site, featuring panoramic glazing, a refined façade geometry, and an expressive interplay of stone, wood, and light.
• Plot area — 15 ares
• Floors: 2
Client’s Task
To design a spacious and comfortable villa for a large family, where contemporary architecture aligns with principles of harmonious spatial planning.
The house was developed with guidance from a Vastu specialist, which influenced its orientation and the placement of functional zones.
Concept
The residence is situated on a gently rising plot, allowing it to naturally elevate above the terrain and be visible from the entrance. The architectural concept is based on two interlocked volumes arranged as if threaded together — a composition reminiscent of a structural “bracket.” This configuration creates private terraces and shields interior spaces from external views. The house opens toward the depth of the site while maintaining a light silhouette and an expressive façade geometry.
Architecture
The architectural language is built on the contrast of horizontal and vertical masses. The first and second floors read as distinct blocks, connected by a white bracket-like frame that shapes the plasticity of the façades and establishes an architectural rhythm.
The façades feature natural, textured materials: dark porcelain stoneware and granite on the first floor, and wooden slats combined with decorative scored plaster on the second. Panoramic glazing fills the interiors with natural light and opens views toward the property.
Beneath the house lies a full-scale basement level of 200 m², accommodating a workshop, billiard room, and technical spaces.
Despite challenging soil conditions, the structure achieves reliable waterproofing and long-term stability.
The house is constructed from monolithic concrete, with interior walls built from clinker brick. The flat roof is partially usable. Panoramic glazing is energy-efficient and engineered for the regional climate.
Lighting is developed as a dedicated design layer: integrated step lighting, landscape illumination, accent fixtures on the façades, and soft diffused interior lighting create a refined evening ambience.
The home is equipped with smart switches and outlets controlled via a mobile application.
• The “bracket” architecture — the key device shaping façade plasticity and terrace privacy.
• A full basement level featuring a workshop and billiard area.
• Panoramic glazing and a vertical light chamber along the staircase.
• Expressive evening illumination of façades and landscape.
